Chapter 5

Five minutes later, Cassie arrived at the court and cut off her car. Nick was the only other person out there. She watched as he dribbled the ball and made a perfect shot every time. She knew without a doubt that he would make the basketball team. He was good. He always had been. Nick just never gave himself enough credit. Yes, there is always room for improvement, but he took it to the extreme when it came to basketball. Finally, she got out of the car and walked over to the edge of the court.

"Hey Carter! How about some one on one?" she called out to him.

"Cass! What happened to your-"

"Don't worry about it," she cut him off with. "I told him we had to take a rain check cause I had to play basketball."

"You shouldn't have. I would've been alright."

"Maybe you would have been, but I wouldn't. I can't let down my best friend. Now, throw me that ball."

He passed her the ball and they started to play. No one kept score. It was just two friends having fun. Soon it got late. They knew it was time to head back home.

Nick put is arm around her shoulders as they walked back to their vehicles. "Thanks for coming, Cassie. I enjoyed playing with you."

"Me too. I'm glad I came."

"I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"

"Sure thing. Talk to you then," Cassie said.

After that, they got in their cars and went their separate ways.

***At Cassie's House***

Cassie felt good. She knew that going to play basketball with Nick was the right thing. Well, she was dead tired. She went up to bed. Cassie changed clothes while listening to the messages. There was only one.

"Cassie, this is Reuben. Too bad we didn't get to go out tonight, but maybe some other time. I gotta tell ya, you looked so great. Just seeing you for that little bit of time, brightened the whole night. I'll call you. Bye."

She definitely liked Reuben. He was a great guy. And she decided that the only reason she was feeling some sort of feelings for Nick, was because she felt alone and she thought she needed someone. She kept telling herself that and how much she liked Reuben. Cassie climbed in bed and fell asleep on that thought.
