Lee had changed out of her candy striper uniform, into a pair of her favorite jeans and a casual top. She sat herself down at an empty table for 2 in the hospital canteen. Her slender fingers fiddled with the rose brooch that was pinned on her chest, over her heart. In her head, she had no idea what this would result into. She didn't even know why the hell Kylie put her up to this in the first place.
Around the corner......
"Nick, why did you talk me into this?" asked Brian.
"Because it's for your own good. Don't worry, she's the one with the..." Nick was interrupted by Brian.
"Rose brooch, yeah....yeah, I know that."
"Ok then, do you have the flowers?" asked Nick.
"Check." answered Brian, holding up a bouquet of white daisies that reminded Nick of Kylie.
"Good, now go." said Nick, giving his best friend a little push around the corner.
Once Brian was thrust into the canteen, his eyes immediately fixed upon none other than Lee. Lee saw Brian, gazing in happy surprise over at her. Then, she saw the white daisies, that was the sign that this was him. Kylie, I love you for this said Lee in her head, but I think I'm going to love Brian more. Brian was about to give a grateful glance to Nick, but he just couldn't tear his eyes off the beautiful Lee.
"Brian." said Lee finally, after all that silent gazing of admiration and shock.
"Lee." smiled Brian happily. He walked over to the table Lee was seated at and sat himself down. "For you" said Brian as he handed her the flowers.
"Thanks. They're beautiful. I've heard of people giving flowers to patients, but not patients giving flowers to hospital staff." joked Lee.
"Yeah" laughed Brian, she definitely did have a good sense of humor thought Brian.
Around the corner, Nick and Kylie were spying.
"Did you see the way they were looking at each other??" exclaimed Kylie.
"I'd be blind not to." said Nick. "They owe us big time."
"Very big time." smiled Kylie, glad to see Lee, who was sitting over with Brian, smiling and laughing away.
"They're getting on well." commented Nick as he watched the couple laugh together.
A week passed, Brian and Lee were definitely a serious item now. Lee spent even more time at the hospital now. Brian was the perfect guy for her, he had even met Adam, who took an immediate liking to Brian surprisingly. Things were starting to look up for her. She had found a new boyfriend, one that she was much more serious about, and she had found a new best friend in Kylie. But, things were not going that well for Kylie, however.
"Brian honey, do you have any idea what's going on between Nick and Kylie?" asked Lee, stroking Brian's hair. They were both in Brian's room, doing absolutely nothing.
"I hoped that wouldn't come up." sighed Brian.
"I mean, they obviously like each other, more than just friends I suspect. Ky goes on and on about him like he's the best thing since sliced bread. And the other day, I accidentally walked in on them, either just as they were about to kiss, or just after they kissed. But, nothing's happened since then." confessed Lee.
"WHAT?!? You mean they were kissing? Nick, kinda does have a girlfriend you know." said Brian in disbelief. He'd think that Nick would have the courtesy to break up with his girlfriend, or remain faithful. Or even at least, keep his relationship with Kylie platonic until he breaks up with his girlfriend.
"He has a girlfriend?" said Lee, disappointed.
"A very serious girlfriend. Even though I personally do not particularly like her, they're serious nevertheless. I dunno what the hell Nick is trying to do, but I'm gonna straighten him out." said Brian. He'd gotten to know Kylie too and really started to like her, and can see why Nick liked her. He knew her now, well enough to know that she was a good person, and a good friend. He would not like to see her hurt, by Nick of all people. Nick, his best friend.
It was a rainy Thursday morning and Kylie and Lee were having one of their chats. Lee was on her break, and Brian was asleep.
"I don't know Lee, he hasn't called, he hasn't visited. After we almost kissed, he hasn't been the same. He's just been acting up really weirdly. And right after we got you guys together, he's like abandoned me completely." confessed Kylie.
"Ky, I think you should just forget about him." advised Lee, not wishing her friend to get into trouble.
"How can you say that Lee? When you met Brian for the first time, could you forget about him?" asked Kylie.
"No, but I'm telling you, it's best that you two stay away for a while anyway." said Lee.
"Why? You're holding something back, I know it. Whatever it is, you can just tell me Lee, I can take it." pleaded Kylie.
"Fine, Nick has a girlfriend." said Lee finally.
"What?!?! He does??? Oh my god, I can't believe I ever liked him in the first place. Do you know what it's like to be two-timed Lee? It's really horrible, and it's so unfair." explained Kylie in disbelief, she really liked Nick, why did it have to turn out this way? thought Kylie.
"Nicky honey, why don't you do something to your hair? It's so messy, we're out in public you know." complained Caroline.
Nick groaned. He hated when she did this and he hated it even more when she called him Nicky. It was now or never told Nick to himself.
"Caroline, we have to talk." said Nick firmly.
"Right, but before that, when did you buy this jacket? It's positively horrible." whined on Caroline.
"Caroline." stated Nick solemnly. "This, you and I." Nick hated breaking up, he could never do it really well. He'd never dumped someone before, he was usually the dumpee, not the dumper.
"Yes, Nicky." said Caroline innocently, batting her eyelashes. That really blew it for Nick.
"Once and for all, don't call me Nick, ok?" said Nick, annoyed.
"Aw, I thought you liked it." Caroline said, putting on a faux whiny kid expression. This after I've told you a zillion times thought Nick in his mind.
"Well I don't" said Nick honestly. "Look, Caroline, you're a really great person and all, but ........" Nick paused. "you're not the person for me." Said Nick, at the speed of a bullet train.
"What?!?" exclaimed Caroline. "Your breaking up with me?" demanded Caroline. "You can't do that. No one breaks up with me."
Nick sighed to himself. That's what you get for dating a spoiled brat, who happens to be his manager's daughter.
"You can't break up with me, because....because..." stammered Caroline Pearlman. "because I break up with you first."
"Fine, have it your way. I just want it clear that it's over." said Nick, who was a little glad that he didn't break her bratty heart into a thousand pieces and even more glad that he was now free to pursue Kylie.
