Chapter 4

It was a few more days before Kylie's next encounter with Nick, although he did call a few times. This time, Nick actually knocked.

"Hey Kylie." greeted Nick cheerfully.

"Hi." grinned Kylie, happy to have this particular visitor. "Another mob of girls breathing down your neck?"

"Errr, nope, this time I came prepared, my bodyguard is waiting outside." explained Nick as he sat himself down on Kylie's bedside.

"Oh really." said Kylie.

"Anyway, how are you doing?" asked Nick.

"Feeling kinda better, but I think that's because of the medicine, but the doctor said my appendix has gotta come out." explained Kylie.

"Oh. Sorry to hear that."

"It's ok. I mean it's a pretty minor operation if you think about it. What's your friend in here for anyway?"

"Open heart surgery." said Nick seriously. In his eyes shone a little glimmer of worry.

"Shit, that's serious."

"I got these for you." said Nick, changing the subject. Out of his backpack, he pulled out a bouquet of flowers, white daisies.

"Thanks. How'd you know that daisies are my favorite." exclaimed Kylie as she graciously accepted the flowers and smelled them appreciatively.

"I didn't." confessed Nick.

"Well, thanks anyway." thanked Kylie, it was so sweet of him she thought.

"So, what have you been doing?" asked Nick.

'Listening to your cd over and over again', answered Kylie in her mind. She had begged her sister to get her his cd, and once she listened to it, she was hooked. She really loved the music. She had even caught their video, As Long As You Love Me, once and she loved it. She's even influenced Lee, who fell in love with their music too.

"Nothing much, still hooked on the video games." said Kylie.

"I can see that." commented Nick, he saw the many cd covers strewn about the table.

"As you can see, I'm not a very neat person. Actually, far from it."

"Nah, this is peanuts compared to my room. And when I room with Brian, it's even worse. Our room is somewhat like a tornado passed through it." said Nick.

"And Brian is??" asked Kylie.

"Besides being a bigger slob than I am, Brian's my best friend. And I'm just about to visit him after this." explained Nick.

"So he's the one in the hospital."

"Yeah." confirmed Nick, sounding a little worried.

"Don't worry, I'm sure he'll be fine." reassured Kylie, she could tell that Nick was a little upset over this.

"I hope so." said Nick. He really did.

Nick looked at Kylie. She was so beautiful to him. Kylie smiled at him, that somehow calmed Nick a lot, and the smile had kinda spread to his face. Kylie stared into Nick's gorgeous blue eyes, which her own velvety brown eyes seemed to be beckoning closer. They leaned in towards each other and just as their lips were about to meet, the door opened and someone barged in.

"Hey Kylie, do you mind if I......." Lee stopped when she realized what she had just interrupted.

"Oops, uh, Ky, I'll come back later ok? And I promise to knock." said Lee as she quickly scrambled out the door.

It was too late now, the moment was gone, Kylie and Nick were focused on the door and their unexpected visitor. Plus, Nick realized what he was going to do, and he realized that it would break his girlfriend's heart.

"Wait a minute. Has that girl been going on and on about this guy she knocked over?" asked Nick.

"This guy whom she claims to have the bluest eyes, a killer grin, brownish blonde hair and about average height." answered Kylie. "Hold on, she said this guy's name was....errr....what was it......Billy....no, ......Byron.....nope, that's not it........Ryan...."

"Brian." interrupted Nick.

"That's it." stated Kylie excitedly.

"And wait, don't tell me, that girl's name is.......Lee?!?"

"Yeah, I think we've got some setting up to do." grinned Kylie.

"Brian, you have to go out with this girl." pleaded Nick, Brian opposed the idea.

"Nick, I came here as a patient, not to start dating all the eligible girls at this hospital." defended Brian.

"She's so perfect for you. And, she doesn't know who you are." persuaded Nick.

"I do not like blind dates." said Brian, trying to get his best friend off his case.

"It's not a totally blind date, I've seen her, and I know you'll definitely like her."

"Nick, I don't wanna." said Brian frankly. In the back of Brian's mind, he was still obsessed with the girl that knocked him down over a week ago.

"Come on, you've got nothing to lose. I know you'll definitely like her." tried Nick.

"Fine." sighed Brian reluctantly, eager to put a stop to Nick's badgering.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Lee, come on, your really gonna like this guy." said Kylie, trying desperately.
"Ky, I'm here to help get patients better, not date them." said Lee.
"Ahem and where was that thought when you bashed into that patient the other day?" Kylie couldn't help but drop a hint.
"That was different, it was an accident. And since you've brought it up, what about Brian? I mean, if he sees me going out with this guy you've dug up for me, how am I going to get myself out of that mess?" Lee was definitely suffering from the aftershocks of being smitten by Brian.
"Lee, you haven't seen that guy for over a week. Who knows, he could have checked out. He could have transferred.. He could have even dropped dead for all you know."persuaded Kylie. Lee winced at the thought.
"I still don't wanna go."
"Lee, he is not totally sick as in bed ridden or something like that. Plus I know you'll get to like him, and I've heard he's really gorgeous." 'Yeah, from you yourself', added Kylie in her head.
"What, you mean you haven't met him?" exclaimed Lee.
"That's a totally minor detail. I personally guarantee that you'll like this guy. I am also really sure that it'll probably develop into something a lot more." Kylie said confidently.
"Kylie, if I go on this date, will you stop bugging me?" asked Lee hopefully.
"Definitely." answered Kylie.
"Ok, I'll do it."
