Chapter 2

"Hi there, Kylie right?" asked Lee as she walked into Kylie's room with a tray of delicious (*sarcasm*) hospital food.

"Yeah." Replied Kylie.

"I'm Lee, if you need anything, just give me a call ok?" asked Lee.

"How about someone to talk to, I'm dead bored." said Kylie blatantly. She spent the whole morning playing around with her playstation her parents had bought her out of guilt. And by now, she needed something different to do. She spent the whole morning, in silence by herself, she needed some company.

"If your really desperate, try the rec room, but I've only seen middle aged or above aged people here. But, if you really want to, I guess I could come during my break." offered Lee.

She was majoring to be a psychiatrist, she needed the practice. Besides, this girl seemed like a nice person.

"I'd like that a lot." smiled Kylie.

"Your the first person that doesn't have a problem bending over or have braces on that I've seen here." Somehow, Kylie was attracted to Lee's upbeat personality.

"Uh, how about I come back in 20 minutes, when I'm on my lunch break." offered Lee, eager to please. This girl seems nice anyway thought Lee, and I'm gonna have to start making friends sooner or later. Lee placed the tray on the table.

"That would be ok." replied Kylie.

"See you later ok, have a nice lunch" smiled Lee as she went out the door.

During Lee's break, Lee went over to Kylie's room as promised. The two really hit it off with each other. They were like friends at first sight. In 10 minutes, they were already talking as if they were best buds. Kylie found it extremely easy to talk to Lee and vice versa. Lee was a natural listener and Kylie told her confidently all about her troubles. Lee, finding a friend to confide in, told Kylie about her mother leaving and all the trouble that caused. Kylie was the only person she told to about that.

"Parents, can't live with them, can't live without them can you?" smiled Lee.

Kylie found it comforting to know that everyone did have problems and to get everything off her chest. She'd normally talk to her sister, but since the fights, Stephanie had been just throwing herself into her work and Kylie saw less and less of her. That was Stephanie's way of dealing with things anyway.

And all I wanted to do was have some peace and quiet thought Brian. He had hardly been at the hospital for a day, and after an hour of peace and quiet, it got on Brian's hyperactive nerves. He surfed through the channels on tv, daytime television, who had the bright idea to invent that, thought Brian sarcastically. He flipped between soap opera, to talk show, to home shopping. He thought he might as well explore this place had been spending the next 3 months of his life in.

He got up from his bed, and walked out the door. The corridor outside was pretty empty, only a few doctors and nurses running frantically around to get to their destination. He wandered his way passed the geriatric ward. Then passed the nursery and admired some adorable, new-born babies. Advanced pass the surgery which as he walked by, he noticed a deep, empty, anxious feeling in the pit of his stomach churning away. A lump stuck in his throat which he couldn't seem to swallow down. The operation he was to undertake after all the tests could be fatal, as all surgery concerning hearts. He almost died once, Brian was determined not to die this time, he had so much to live for.

Instead of pondering about his life even more, he moved on and later found himself a little lost. Brian took some steps to backtrack his path, but was as lost as ever. He gave up, and read a poster on the dangers of drug abuse. His eyes were glued on the print, mounted upon the wall, he was then knocked over. With his butt on the floor, he looked up to his attacker and saw this beautiful girl in a candy striper uniform. Her green eyes went perfectly with her light brown hair which was pulled back with clips. He discovered himself staring at her.

"Sorry, I'm so completely sorry. Did I hurt you?" asked Lee in concern and embarrassment. She offered an apologetic hand to him to help him get up which he accepted." God, and I'm actually here to help people."

"No, no, I'm totally fine. Just a little lost." Brian's face sort of flushed with embarrassment. Once Lee's embarrassment had subsided, she then noticed that this guy was extremely good looking which made her even more anxious.

"Sorry, I cant really help you, cuz I'm kinda lost myself. I'm new here you see, and I'm looking for the staff room." explained Lee. Extremely good looking is an understatement, this guy was completely gorgeous with his crystal blue eyes that were penetrating holes into her the harder they stared at her.

"Join the club. By the way, I'm Brian." Introduced who else but Brian.

"Hi Brian. The name Brian echoed in her mind, it suited him completely. I'm Roberta, but everyone calls me by my middle name, Lee." Said Lee, she then suddenly spotted Dr. Matthews.

"Hello Brian, I see you've met our newest recruit, Lee, and I see you've met one of our newest patients."

The good doctor smiled at the two of them, happy to see that they both had met a friend.

"What brings you two here to the nursery?"

"Uh, we’re kinda lost." Admitted Brian.

"Yeah, how do you get to the staff room." Asked Lee.

"Go down a floor and take a right at physical therapy. You'd better go quick, Mrs. Thatcher (the head matron) will be on the warpath." Warned Dr. Matthews.

"Thanks Dr. Bye, Brian, sorry about the knocking down thing." apologized Lee once again as she sped of down the corridor.

"Brian, your room is straight down the corridor, hang a left at geriatrics, another right at the reception and your there." Instructed Dr. Matthews.
