The wedding was to take place a month away. The couple, their parents and the best man and maid of honor were all set to arrange the wedding. They had decided that it was not fair to have the usual bride's parents pay for everything so they decided they would split the cost 3 ways. Brian's parents, Billie's parents and the couple themselves. Nick and Jamie were basically around to help them plan other stuff. While they were arguing about the cost and financial side of things, William was fooling around with Nick and his mother. Nick was lifting William up in the air and swinging him around, then he passed him on to his mother who swung him around some more. She then put him on the floor, and he went over to Nick who carried him and the 2 of them were making silly faces at each other. Jamie smiled at this, but shook the smile off. She knew William mustn't get too close, but she couldn't stop them.
"You're pretty good with kids aren't you," said Jamie, trying to make conversation.
"I'm ok I guess. I love them. I had a kid brother, Aaron, you met him last night, so I've had loads of practice with little boys," explained Nick, as he pulled another funny face. "Eve doesn't like children," said Nick sadly.
"Oh," answered Jamie. "William's pretty fast for his age. Aren't you?"
"Yup. I'm a clever boy," answered William, then he scrunched up his face at Nick and showed his teeth. Nick then started to tickle the little boy, and Jamie joined him. William couldn't stop laughing.
Billie had gone to pick a wedding dress, and she dragged Jamie along after many protests.
"This isn't bad," said Jamie as she pointed to a plain yet interesting yellow dress.
"That looks so ordinary. I'm getting married for god's sake. And, I'm looking for something white," answered Billie who flipped the pages of the catalogue. Jamie was getting tired, she wasn't really into clothes. She never was. She sighed and continued to flip through the pages of the magazine in front of her full of pages of wedding dresses.
"How about this one. It's quite nice," sated Jamie, referring to an elaborate white dress with flowers and frills galore.
"Yeah, if your Little Miss. Muffett," commented Jamie haughtily. "Come on Billie, you know they wouldn't even make such an idiotic dress for Barbie."
"You're right." Billie had to agree with her on that one. As Jamie flipped, something caught her eye, she quickly found the page and took a good look at it.
"Billie! I found it, the perfect dress for you!" exclaimed Jamie and shoved the picture under her best friend's nose. It was perfect, in Jamie's opinion.
"James, I think we can stop looking," agreed Billie and ogled at the dress.
Meanwhile, William was with Nick and Brian, because he didn't want to follow to girls to look at dresses. He had never known another male person, besides himself and he was curious. He also looked up to them, in a different way than he looked up to his mother and his aunts. Somehow, he felt a special bond with them, especially Nick, and kinda Brian because he was so nice and funny. In some ways, Brian and Nick could be more of a kid than William could.
"Hey," greeted Nick, as he sat himself down next to Jamie outside on the balcony in Billie and Brian's house.
"Hi," answered Jamie. It was incredibly awkward and uncomfortable. Finally, Nick decided to come out straight with what he wanted to tell her.
"Nice night huh?" asked Nick, trying to fill the sound of silence all around him.
"Yeah." Jamie tried to avoid his eyes, she didn't really feel comfortable talking to him, and now especially when he looked so hot.
"Since I'm best man, and your maid of honor right, well, I've seen in movies and stuff how there's always a video made for the bride and groom of all their friends and family wishing them the best in stuff."
"Like in Jerry Maguire right?"
"Yeah, except without the ex-girlfriends," smiled Nick.
"That's good, so do you wanna do that?"
"Yep. I've got a camera ready at home."
"But we can't let them know y'know. It could be a surprise."
"So what else do we do, as best man and maid of honor?" asked Nick, she was so beautiful thought Nick. The way the light reflects on her hair, and her eyes sort of almost twinkle. Nick mentally slapped himself. Get a hold of yourself, Nick, said Nick to himself.
"I know we're the ones who arrange the bachelor and bachelorette parties."
"That'd be fun."
"I think we're basically supposed to help them with anything I guess."
