Chapter 4

Brian and Billie were not the only ones sleeping next to each other. Jamie and Nick had both fallen asleep and somehow, Jamie's head ended up on Nick's shoulder and Nick's head on top of hers. Nick was the first to wake up. He was startled to find that the tough looking girl was leaning on his shoulder. He looked at his watch it was already 11. He rubbed his eyes and thought that he'd better go home. He tapped the mysterious girl lightly on the shoulder. She awoke.

"No, Mom, let me sleep for 5 more minutes," mumbled Jamie only half awake.

"No dear, you have to wake up now. Your ride's already waiting," said Nick in a high-pitched voice.

"What?!?" Jamie reluctantly opened her eyes and saw Nick. She groaned, as Nick laughed.

"I have to go. So, if you'll kindly detach your head from my shoulder, I'll leave." She lifted her head up and Nick got up to give his phone number to the receptionist. She followed him to the reception. Nick scribbled down his phone number and she did the same.

"Uhhh, excuse me, but, can you help me out?" asked Jamie.

"With what?" answered Nick puzzled.

"My friend who got lost, well, she had the car keys, so can I have a lift?" asked Jamie desperately, she didn't want to get stuck at the stables.

"Sure, where do you live?" asked Nick.

"82 Calico Drive, now do you know where it is?"

Yeah, it's near my place. It's kind of a detour but I'll drop you off anyway," agreed Nick.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," thanked Jamie as she followed him out the door.

In Nick's truck, there was an awkward silence. Nick hated that, so he tried his best to make conversation.

"By the way, I'm Nick," introduced Nick.

"Jamie." She remained quiet and looked out the window. He'd better not be coming on to me, thought Jamie. Suddenly, there was knocking sounds on the roof of the truck. Then, they saw little pieces of ice striking against the window.

"Oh my god, Billie," gasped Jamie.

"What?"

"My friend is out there in the hail."

"So's mine. Hey, my place is nearer. I don't wanna get major dents in my truck, so do you mind if we wait the hail out there?" suggested Nick.

"Fine" agreed Jamie as Nick turned into his road and pulled up the driveway into the garage.

Nick got out of the car and inspected the damage. Only a few scratches. He opened the door, Jamie got out and followed him into the house.

"You live here alone?" deducted Jamie.

"Yeah."

"Must have thinned out Mommy and Daddy's wallets." Jamie noticed that the house was relatively large, she had deduced that Nick was only about her age.

"No way. I paid every penny for this house with my own, hard earned money," defended Nick. "Make yourself at home. I'll get some towels." They were wet from running to the truck.

Jamie inspected the living room. She saw some photographs on the table. There was one with Nick and his shrunken twin, his kid brother, obviously. A photograph with a bunch of people all looking similar to Nick, family. The rest were Nick with the same bunch of guys. 5 of them, always. That was weird though Jamie. She scanned the living room. She saw some gold records hanging on the wall and had a look. There was a picture of an album cover with the 5 guys in the pictures on it. It was titled Backstreet's Back, by the Backstreet Boys. Just my luck, I have to run into a Backstreet Boy. Nick emerged, carrying a towel and drying his hair with another towel with his other hand.

"Ohh, you know," said Nick.

"I sure do, Mr. Backstreet Boy."

"Come upstairs, you can take a shower. I'll lend you some clothes." Nick led her into his room. There was a clear glass display cabinet full of Beanie Babies.

"Beanie babies," giggled Jamie.

"What?!? They were bought a long time ago," defended Nick as he opened his closet. He pulled out a white Nike shirt and a tracksuit bottom.

"This shrunk in the wash, and the pants may be a bit big, but their the smallest I have," said Nick as he threw the clothes at her. She caught them.

"Oh, you must be so good at laundry." Jamie said sarcastically.

Nick ignored the remark and showed her to the bathroom. Nick seemed to have to always defend himself in front of this girl. He hated to be criticized.

Nick was sitting in the living room when Jamie came out of the shower.

"That was fast," said Nick sarcastically

"Yeah, I know. I hold the world record," joked Jamie.

"Hungry?"

"No, I've just spent the last 10 hours without food. What do you think?"

"Fine, follow me." Nick got up from the couch and went into the kitchen. He opened the fridge but all there was, was a carton of milk, Tupperware containing some moldy uneatable substance and a half a box of pizza and lastly, were two cans of beer. Although Nick was under aged, they were left from a party the BSB threw in house a while ago.

You are so well stocked." Jamie teased him.

"Leftovers" he took the pizza out of the fridge and chucked it in the microwave, punching in a few buttons. He took the milk and tried pouring it into a glass, but all that came out was yellow sludge.

"Gross, I bet it's older than Einstein."

Nick poured the sludge down the sink. When the pizza was ready, Nick took it and the beer into the living room. He handed her a can and a slice of pizza. They ate and drank in silence, both not knowing what to say to each other. Jamie got up and inspected his CD collection.

"I'm impressed, a Backstreet Boy has surprisingly good taste in music. Well, except for some exceptions." She was referring to Nirvana and Green Day, her exceptions was the Journey and others.

"I've hardly said 10 sentences to you. You don't know me at all."

Jamie sat back down next to Nick. He looked at her. She was in fact really pretty. He noticed that she had a tiny tattoo on her collarbone. It was a black heart. Jamie studied Nick's face. Without the baseball cap, with his blond hair showing, he was actually quite cute, thought Jamie. She mentally pinched herself. Suddenly, they both started kissing each other passionately for no apparent reason. Jamie's arms sort of wandered all over Nick's body and Nick's arms found it's way around Jamie.
