Nick stood in the mist of a bunch of unhappy people who were booing the band onstage. I KNOW we could do better than them! Nick thought, looking disapprovingly at the stage.

His gaze wandered from one angry person to the next. Then out of the corner of his eye, he saw someone looking at him.

Nick turned to see a beautiful girl staring at him. The girl had green eyes that were looking up and down his body. The girl tucked a strand of her long strawberry blond hair behind her ear, and pushed her way towards him.

Nick began to sweat. Why was she coming to him? Why did she have to come NOW, before he had anything to say?

Nick's heart seemed to stop, the girl was standing right in front of him.

"Hi, I'm Melanie." the girl said, extending her hand.

"I'm Nick." Nick said, extending his own hand.

Nick felt a shiver go through his body as he shook Melanie's hand.

Nick didn't know this, but Melanie had felt that same shiver.

Both of them were silent for a minute. Finally, they spoke.

"So...what do you think of the party?" Nick asked, nervously running his fingers through his thick blond hair.

"It totally sucks." Melanie responded. Until I met you she added silently to herself.

"Yeah, this band can't play for their lives, and look at that guy, he must be 6 foot 4 with that fro!" Nick said, hoping he didn't sound like an idiot.

Melanie laughed.

"So...do you want to-" Nick was cut off by a person running between him and Melanie. Then another, and another. Nick realized it was the band. All of a sudden, half the crowd was running after the band, throwing stuff at them!

Nick was being shoved farther and farther back. He looked up and realized Melanie was being shoved back in the opposite direction.

Nick tried to fight his way back, but it was no use. So he let his body be pushed and pulled away from Melanie.

*At The Same Time*

Melanie screamed "Stop! Stop! Stop it right now!" but no one listened.

Melanie finally gave up. It was no use. She finally just let her body be pushed away from Nick's.
