Prince Nickolas sat on his thrown, frowning. His
mother was
lecturing him
again, and on the same topic as always.
"But why is it so hard for you to find a wife
Nickolas?" she asked
him,
for about the 50th time.
"How many times do I have to tell you mother? I
just haven't found the right girl yet. When I find her, you'll know, don't worry. When I find her I
won't let her go."
"What about that Mandy girl?" his mother
continued, as if she
hadn't
heard a word he said.
"Mandy! Mandy Ford! No way!"
"Why not? She's attractive. I think she would make a great queen."
"It's what's inside that matters! Mandy isn't
the one for me mother!" Nickolas was beginning to get impatient.
"Nickolas," his mother started, "I don't want to
push you, but your Father has been gone for 3 months now, and this kingdom needs a king. And you know that you can't have a king without a queen. It's really
important, not just to me, but to the entire kingdom that you find a wife, and find one fast." And with that, his mother left the room.
Nickolas sighed and went up to his chamber.
Nickolas was outside in the garden singing. He did that a lot. It always seemed to clear his head. Everyone was always saying how they couldn't possibly see how singing could be of any help to ones troubles, but for Nickolas, belting out those notes was like heaven on earth.
Nickolas was just ending his song when who would appear but Lady Britney.
"Hello Prince Nickolas," she smiled sweetly at him.
"Oh, hello Princess Britney." Nickolas said glumly.
"I couldn't help but overhear your wonderful song." Mandy said, moving closer to him.
"Oh." Nickolas said, slowly backing up.
"Well Nickolas, I heard your mother talking to my mother the other day"
"Uh huh." Nickolas continued to back up.
"And," Mandy continued to walk forward, "I couldn't help but overhear her say that you were going to ask me to be your Queen."
"Well, actually-"
"So I knew I had to come over here!"
"Actually I wasn't sure if I was going-"
"And tell you that!"
"I wasn't sure who-"
"That my answer is yes."
Nickolas stopped. Because he had been walking backwards, he hadn't been looking where he was going, and had walked into the Garden Wall.
Mandy stood in front of him, and put one of her arms next to his left side, and one to his right so he was trapped. "My answer is yes, I will be your Queen." She leaned forward and kissed him softly on the lips. "Oh Nickolas, I know that we're going to be very happy together," she said, and left Nickolas standing there, his mouth hanging open and eyes wide.
