Chapter 9

*****A Few Weeks Later*****

I was glad to be getting married to Jen, but I didn't realize that planing a wedding would be so difficult. Jen and I moved into Brian, AJ's, and Amanda's house. I had previously had a room there, so we just moved our clothes in there. Jen was supposed to go back home after four weeks, but since there was a wedding to plan, my parents found Jen's family a nice place to stay for the next couple of months. Brian and I were fixing dinner, AJ was watching television, and Jen and Amanda were upstairs in mine and Jen's room talking, probably about the wedding.

"Brian, what do you think about Jen and I getting married?" I asked him, fixing the meat for the tacos we were making.

"I love it. I mean, if you guys are in love with each other, I think you're doing the right thing. I'm happy for you guys," he said, chopping tomatoes.

The meat was ready, so I took it off the burner and went to the refrigerator to get cheese. I started grating it. Brian stopped what he was doing and looked at me strangely.

"Are you not wanting to go through with this?" he asked, concerned.

"No, Bri. Use your head, Frick. Of course, I want to go through with this," I said. But, I stopped smiling and looked down at the suddenly very interesting block of cheese.

"I just don't know if we're ready. I just don't know if she thinks she's ready. I think ever since the incident with Kaitlyn, she thinks that we're not ready for marriage yet," I said.

"Are you?" he asked.

"I don't know, Frick. That's why I'm asking you," I said, know chuckling.

"I think you guys are ready. If you can get through something like Kaitlyn, you guys are ready," he said picking up the vegetables he chopped and set them on the table.

"I'll go get the girls," I said. I walked through the living room and up the stairs to mine and Jen's room. I opened the door.

"Hope you're decent," I said covering my hand over my eyes. I opened my eyes.

"Yo babes. Let's eat. Dinner's ready," I said grabbing Jen and tickling her.

"Ah, stop it, Nick," she screamed. She reached over and pinched me on the arm.

"Ouch, Kaitlyn," I yelled. She stopped laughing and looked at me with wide eyes.

"What did you say?" she asked. She didn't wait for my reply. She ran in our room and slammed the door.

"Oh God, Jen" I yelled but it was too late. 'Great Nick, now look what you've done,' I thought. AJ had walked up and him and Amanda were standing by the wall. AJ had his arm around Amanda's waist.

"Come on baby, dinner's ready," said AJ and led Amanda downstairs.

"Come on, babe," I said quietly into the door. I could here her crying. It hurt to here her cry and then not be able to hold her, even though I was the one that made her cry.

"Jen, please let me in. I have to explain, but I can't do it through a door," I said quietly, pleading.

"Find a way or you're screwed," she cried angrily.

"Okay," I said. I shoved my hands into my pockets and began to sing "No One Else Comes Close".

"Jen, I'm sorry," I said. There was no reply. "Jen, I love you," I tried. Still no reply. I stood there about six more minutes and finally realized that she would have to come out sometime, so I'd just sit by the door and wait. I sat there for about an hour before B-Rok came up there.

"Watch out. Hey, Jen. This is Brian. Can I come in? There's something I need out of there," he said grinning.

"What?" she asked.

"Ummm. Okay, so maybe I don't have to get something, but will you let me in anyways. We need to talk. You can't stay in there forever," he said.

"Watch me!" she screamed.

I walked up to the door and slapped my hand on it gently, out of frustration.

"Look I know you're angry. But you and I both know that I would never deliberately hurt you. Now please, come on baby. I've been punished if that's your plan," I said. But it was no use. She wouldn't reply to me at all. Then, Amanda decided to give it a shot.

"Jen. This is Manda. Girl come on, let me in. I've been in your situation a lot. I can't tell you the number of times AJ has called me some other name like Carrie, Tiffany, or Christine," she said smiling. AJ's mouth dropped open. He was going to protest but Amanda gave him the quiet sign.

"Come on, girl. We can talk about this. You don't have to talk to Nick...yet," she said. At that, the door opened just enough for Amanda to go through. She turned around.

"You guys go downstairs and wait. This could take a while," she said and went into the room. Brian grabbed my arm and pulled me downstairs.
