Chapter 7

*****Nick*****

I got to the airport and put my baseball cap on. I walked to the very last terminal, at the back of the crowded building.

"Sup, Frack?" Brian said yawning.

"Goin on, Bri?" I replied.

"I asked you first," he said.

"Whatever," I mumbled.

"Oh, I get it. What did she say?" Brian asked, referring to Jen and I's engagement.

"She said yes, but for some reason this trip seems really long. I've been away from her for longer than 5 days though," I said.

"Alright guys. We're ready," said Denise walking out of the terminal.

I slapped my bookbag on my back. I walked down the terminal and found a seat on the private jet. The flight lasted forever. We finally reached LA at about 5:00 p.m.. I didn't feel like doing much. So, I went to my hotel suite and laid on my bed. Just then the phone rang.

"Hello?" I mumbled.

"Yo Nick, do you want to go look around Beverly Hills?" asked AJ.

"No. Not really," I said.

"You thinking about Jen?" he asked.

"Yeah. We're finally engaged and I have to leave," I replied.

"Yeah. If you do something, it'll make the time go by faster. Come on Frack, it'll be fun," said AJ, desperately trying to get me to come.

"Yeah, alright," I said giving in.

"Meet us downstairs in 10 minutes," he said and hung up.

I climbed off the bed and over to my bookbag. I took out the picture frame that always sits beside my bed at home. It's a picture of Jen and I at Howie's birthday party the year before. I was kissing her on the cheek and she was laughing. She was so pretty and I missed her so much. Right now, I just wanted to take Jen out on my boat with me, cuddle up with her, and watch the sun set. I sat the frame down on the bedside table, grabbed my wallet and baseball cap, turned out the lights, and walked out the door.

I met the guys and we went walking around Beverly Hills. We went into a sports store and while I was looking around, someone called my name.

"Nick Carter, is that you?" said a high, perfect tone voice. I jerked around to face Kaitlyn Shane, a cover girl model I had dated for 2 years. It seemed like forever, since I had gone out with her.

"Kaitlyn Shane. What are you doing here?" I asked, sounding surprised.

"Photo shoots, fashion shows, publicity stuff. What about you?" she asked smiling.

"Really? We have a video shoot for the next 2 days. I'm not looking forward to it," I said chuckling.

"Well, I know how stressful shoots can be. Do you want to do something together tomorrow night?" she said moving closer to me. She seemed to be looking me over. I liked this girl...a lot. Any normal guy would be crazy not to like her.

"I think me and the guys are gonna do something. Sorry," I said, trying to sound sincere.

"Well call me. I'm sure you know the number," she said and walked slyly away. That girl sure knows how to make a guy go crazy. I snapped back into reality.

"Nick. Nick, man, come on. Let's go," Kevin called.

I turned around and walked out of the store and joined the guys. In my mind, I thought about my fiancee and the commitment I had made to her not one week ago. But then, I thought about the intense relationship I had had with Kaitlyn about two years ago. When I say intense, I mean intense. When I thought about it, we had come really close to sleeping with each other. We shopped for about two hours and then went back to the hotel.

Later that night, as I was getting ready for bed, I remembered I was supposed to call Jen. I ran over to the phone and dialed her number using my phone card. It was 12:51p.m.. Back in Florida, it was about 10:00p.m. I hoped she was awake. 1 ring, 2 ring, 3 ring.

"Hello?" said a groggy voice.

"Jen, it's me Nick..."

"Nick, I'm asleep. You should have called before 10:00p.m.. Good-night." *Click*

"Jen. Jen? Come on," I yelled. "Fine." I slammed the phone down.

*Knock, knock, knock* Someone was at my door. I walked to the door and opened it. Kaitlyn was standing there. She was wearing a white see-through tank top and a baby pink mini-skirt.

"I figured you'd be alone in your hotel room. Maybe, I could keep you company," she said. She reached out and put her hands around my neck and kissed me. I backed up into my hotel room. I picked her up and carried her into the bedroom. I walked into the bedroom and layed her down on the bed. As I was about to lift up her shirt to kiss her stomach I glanced at the picture of Jen and I. I thought about the ring I gave her, all the times I had made out with her, and the way she felt in my arms. I never felt that with Kaitlyn and I certainly didn't feel it now. I pulled Kaitlyn's shirt back down and walked back into the living room of my suite.

"What do you think you're doing?" she asked walking in the room shocked.

"I'm engaged, Kait. I'm getting married to the best girl in the world. She's beautiful, she perfect. I'm getting married to her in 3 months and I love her," I said sitting on the couch.

"What she doesn't know won't hurt her," she said coming to sit with me on the couch.

"I can't Kaitlyn," I said, almost pleading. She put her arms around my neck.

"Nick we have a....meeting," said AJ bursting through the door.

"God AJ, don't you know how to knock," I yelled jumping off the couch. I realized how it looked.

"Kaitlyn, get out," I yelled pointing at the door. AJ stayed in the room as Kait left.

"What are you doing man? Nick, you've got the perfect girl waiting for you back in Tampa. You're getting married in a few months. What are you doing fooling around..." "I believe you Nick. But, you're gonna have to tell Jen when we get back. Just in case she finds out from someone else. Trust me. She'll love you more if you tell her," he said. "Come on. Let's go to the meeting," he said and left.
