Chapter 3

I woke up. I didn't open my eyes but put my face in the pillow. Who's pillow? I smelled it. Gravity. I looked up at the ceiling. A huge poster of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was on the ceiling. On the wall, there was a poster of Alien Resurrection. I sat up. Then, I remembered. I was in Nick's room. I looked over at his white alarm clock. It was 5:41.

"Oh no. I slept my whole first day away," I muttered. I jumped up and ran downstairs. Nick and Jane were in the kitchen and Angel was watching television. I walked into the kitchen.

"Look who's up," Nick said smiling. "Welcome back."

"Why didn't you wake me up?" I asked playfully hitting him in the arm.

"You looked so beautiful, I didn't want to wake you," he said, a cheesy smile on his face. At saying this he turned red.

"So, what did you do while I zonked out?" I asked.

"Nothing much," Nick said smiling. He looked like he was thinking about something. I wondered what.

*****Flashback with Nick and Brian earlier that day*****

As soon as I left Jen, I went downstairs to see who had come in. It was Brian.

"Where's Jen?" he asked as I came downstairs.

"She's asleep, sorry. But why did you want to see her so badly?" I asked sitting on the couch.

"Well, I was just wondering if you'd asked her yet," Brian asked eagerly.

"I told you Bri, I'm asking her on Valentine's Day. A lot of guys ask their girls to marry them on Valentine's Day," I said matter-of-factly.

"Yeah, but..."

"But what Bri?" I asked. We walked into the kitchen.

"Why don't you wait till her birthday?" Brian suggested.

"That's what I did with Leighanne," Brian finished.

"Well, I don't go out with Michelle. I go out with Jennifer. I'm asking her on Saturday. That gives me four days to plan this thing. Plus, Jen's birthday is about nine months away, I'm not waiting that long to marry the girl I love," I said.

"Well...let me see the ring," Brian said extending his hand out.

"It's up in my room along with my sleeping Jennifer. Don't go up there," I said.

"Why? She naked?" Brian joked.

"Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha...No. Anyways, you've already seen it," I stated.

"Well, I tried" Brian said and turned to leave.

"I'll see ya later Frack. Call me."

"See ya Bri," I yelled quietly.

*****End Flashback*****

"So do you want to go to a movie?" asked Nick after dinner.

"Sure," I said happily.

An hour later, I got dressed to go to the movies. I chose a pair of Calvin Klein jeans, a baby blue tank top, and my white tennis shoes. He met me coming down the stairs.

"Bye Mom! We're gone!" Nick yelled.

"Bye guys! Have fun! 12:00!" she yelled from her room upstairs.

Nick put his arm around my waist and we walked out the door. We got to the movies and went in. We hadn't been there ten minutes, when I noticed a blond haired girl looking at us strangely. I nudged Nick.

"What?" he asked sounding slightly annoyed.

"Some girl's looking at me," I whispered.

"Really?" he asked sarcastically.

"Just be rude Nickolas," I muttered under my breath. I didn't have time to see if Nick heard me or not as the girl walked over.

"Nicky?" she asked. Nicky? He didn't let anyone call him Nicky. Not even me, his own girlfriend.

"Summer?" he said smiling. He reached over and gave her a hug. I just stood there. Nick dropped his grasp with my hand. My mouth probably completely dropped open. They talked for about ten minutes and finally she walked off. But, not before he kissed her on the cheek. He finally returned back to reality. He turned around to me and reached down for my hand. I jerked it up and folded my hands across my chest.

"Jen? What's wrong? Baby?" he asked trying to get me to look at him.

"Look all I know is that one minute I'm standing in line with you and the next minute some blond chic walks up to you and there's nobody else in this place. And why do I get the feeling that you went out with her?" I asked. My voice was growing with every word.

"Yeah I did. But will you acknowledge something. I have no security with me, so if you might wanna keep your voice down, so as not to draw any attention. But yeah, I did go out with her. So what? I don't now. I go out with some other beautiful angel. You," he said almost a whisper now. I looked into his sincere eyes.

"Shut up Nick," I said and tried to hide my smile.

"A-hah! See you do love me," he said grabbing my waist. We moved up in the line.

"I have to. I don't have a choice," I said smiling.

"Your exactly right," he muttered quietly.

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Nevermind," he said quietly.

"No Nick, what did you say?" I asked nervously. We got up to the window and Nick told the guy what he wanted.

"What did you want to see, hon? Enemy of The State?" he asked. I nodded.

"Two for Enemy of The State," Nick said and pulled out his wallet.

During the movie, I think Nick and I did more kissing than watching. Neither of us knew what the movie was really about. After the movie, we went to McDonald's. We both got chocolate sundaes. However, Nick was done with his in 5 minutes. I swear, both Carter brothers inhale food. We finally got home about 11:30. Everyone was asleep, so Nick and I went to the back of the house. He led me over to the hammock. I laid my head on his chest and looked at the night sky.

"Sing to me, Nick," I said.

"Every time I close my eyes..."

We laid on the hammock for about an hour. Finally, we went into the house. He walked me to my room and kissed me good-night.
