Chapter 5 : The Tour

Finally the tour came. It seemed to take forever. The plan was this: Denise sent her a few things in the mail like a backstage pass, two tickets to the concert in Greenville, and a note that told her about the tour and what to do that night. Finally, the day of the concert came. The last song was "Everybody" and she was supposed to go to the backstage area and wait to leave. When the song started, she looked for the pass. It was gone.

"Oh know! I can't get backstage," she thought.

Her only hope was to get Nick's attention. He could probably help her. She walked up to the front row. She tried to yell his name, but since every other girl in the place was yelling his name too, he couldn't hear her. Kevin saw her and nudged Nick. He came over to the side of the stage. He motioned for her to come up on the stage.

"No," she screamed.

"Yes. You have to," he yelled.

Seeing his point, she walked over to the stairs and one of the security guards grabbed her arm. Nick ran down the stairs and told him it was okay; that she was with him. As she walked out on the stage, there was an adrenaline rush. 16,000 people were looking at her with hateful eyes, because now, Nick had his arm around her. They started saying goodbye to the fans. Nick grabbed her and gently shoved her down the stairs to the backstage. They went to the back door and carefully opened it. There was about fifty girls waiting outside.

"Wait, wait, wait!" yelled Nick. He pushed her behind him and let Bob, a security guard, in front of him. Kevin came up behind her and put his arms on her shoulders. Nick turned around to her.

"You ready?" he yelled smiling.

"Yeah," she said.

"Do not let go of my hand, until we reach the bus," he yelled just as Bob opened the door. The crowd screamed as the door opened again. Kevin stayed close to Jennifer and made sure she was protected. It took about eight minutes to reach the bus. Nick was still holding Jen's hand, when they reached the bus. Nick plopped down on the couch and pulled her down on top of him. She laughed and kissed him on the lips.

"Hi," he said,

"Hi," she said resting her head on his forehead. He was very sweaty but she didn't care. She hadn't seen him in three weeks. He smelled like a lot of stuff. Smoke from the pyro, his cologne, sweat. He shoved her off of him playfully and stood in front of her. Her head came to his stomach.

"I"m going to change," he said and kissed her on the head.

Once he left, Jen spoke to Brian.

"B-Rok? You asleep?" she asked. Brian was across from her on the other couch.

"Almost. But, I can't sleep. I'm too hyped. Give me about a half an hour or so and then I'll be asleep. Where's Nick?" he said.

He was wearing black dress pants and a white under shirt. He had obviously taken his "Everybody" shirt off; just about all of them had.

"He went to change. Something you should probably consider" she said trying her best to look disgusted.

"Ha, ha. Very funny. You just watch it," he said with a smirk.

"Oh bite me, Frick," she said trying to keep a straight face.

"I'm gonna watch some TV. Wanna join me?" he asked.

"I got nothing better to do," she said and curled up on the couch. As Brian was flipping channels, Nick came in fussing at AJ.

"AJ, I always have that bunk," he argued.

"Well, this time you don't. Give it a rest," he retaliated.

"Yeah, Frack. Let's see how immature we can be now about this. It's a bunk," Brian said.

"Oh Bri, why don't you go stick your head out to the window or something," Nick said getting angry.

"Everybody just leave my poor baby alone," Jen said in a little baby voice.

Nick came over and tried to sit on Jen. Brian pushed Nick off her and he fell on the floor. Brian jumped on top of Nick and they started a wrestling match.

"Jen, help me," yelled Nick.

"No, Jen, help me," yelled Brian.

"Man, what do you think your doing? She's my girlfriend," said Nick and shoved Brian off of him.

Nick came and sat beside her and put his arm on the back of the couch.

"Well, I'm going to bed," said Howie.

"Hold up. Who's sleeping where?" he finished.

"Well, Jen and Nick are NOT sleeping in the same bunk," said Kevin laughing.

Nick came up behind Jen and slid his arms around her waist. He started laughing at Kevin's remark.

"Oh, come on," said Nick among everyone's clapping and applauding.

"Well, I know Brian won't give up his bunk and it's the closest one to me, so oh well," said Nick grabbing Jen's hand and attempting to pull her back to the bunks. Kevin grabbed him and pulled him back into the room.

"I'm just going to kiss her good-night," said Nick smiling.

"That's great. I agree that you should do that...When she goes to bed," said Brian.

"Aw man!" said Nick and sat back down on the couch.

The guys had a good laugh over Nick and Jen. They harassed him many times, before the night was actually over. When Jen and Nick went to bed, Nick kissed Jen on the lips. She slid her hand around his head. They kissed again. He pulled away.

"Good-night. I love you," he said. He went back to the living area.

"Nick," Brian called.

"I heard something about you two back in Tampa," he said.

"Well, what did you hear?" asked Nick worriedly. "Well I heard the last night you two were together, you uhh..." he said.

"What?" Nick asked puzzled.

"Did you two...ya know?" asked Brian.

Nick's eyes got very big. "What?!" Nick said.

"Well, there's kind of a rumor going around that you and Jen...ya know..."

"Had sex, Brian? That's what your looking for. And no, of course not. For a lot of reasons."

Nick was yelling now. "Number one, I have only been dating her for two months. Number two, neither of us are ready for that. Number three, I would like to savage what I have of a relationship right now. Number four, we're not even married. And finally, number five, I love and respect her too much to do that."

When he finished screaming, everyone had stopped what they were doing and were starting at them. Howie had a toothbrush in his mouth, A.J. was standing with his shirt in his hands instead of on his body, and Jen was standing there wide-eyed.

"I have a feeling this...fight...was about me," she said.

Nick pushed past everyone and slammed the door to the back. Jen came back there and lightly knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" he choked.

"It's me," she said.

"Come on in," he said. She opened the door and slid in.

"Do you care to talk.."

"NO!," he yelled.

She turned around and was leaving.

"Jen, wait!" he said getting up. "I'm sorry," he said and put his arms around her.

"What happened?" she asked.

"There is a rumor in Tampa about us," he said.

"What?" she asked quizzically.

"The rumor is that I slept with you on the beach that last night," he said sighing.

"What?" she said breaking away from him.

"But, there was no one else there," she continued. "Did you start this Nick?"

"What are you crazy? Listen to yourself, Jen. I just had a fight with Brian about this..."

"Okay, okay. I'm sorry, I'm sorry," she said. "Come here," she said smiling. "We're here now. We're not in Tampa anymore. By the time you get back, this thing will probably be all over. People will forget about it and you should too," she said with her arms around him.

After that, everyone decided to go to bed. Brian and Nick made up and everyone went to bed. In the early morning, Nick tried to wake Jen up because they were at the hotel. When she didn't get up, he picked her up and carried her to their hotel room. When she woke up, Nick was in the bed beside her asleep. She quietly got up and crept to the bathroom and took a shower. She got out and wrapped the towel around her. When she opened the bathroom door, Nick was standing there.

"Morning," he said and gave her a long kiss on the lips.

He walked past her and into the bathroom for his shower. By the time he got out, she was already dressed. It was only 10:39, so they had time to kill before they had to be at the coliseum. They were amazingly enough, already in Washington, D.C.. Jen chose a khaki skort and a white short sleeve dress shirt over a pastel pink tank top with some white sandals. She met the rest of the group in the hotel lobby.

When she got down there, A.J. and Howie were the only ones there. A.J. had on a pair of blue jeans, a Nautica t-shirt, and a Ralph Lauren baseball cap. Howie was wearing khaki shorts and a navy blue t-shirt. His disguise was a white LA baseball cap and sunglasses. Kevin, Brian, and Nick finally came down on the elevator. Brian was wearing blue jeans and a Tommy Hilfiger t-shirt. Kevin had his "Phat Farm" t-shirt and blue jeans. Nick (last but certainly not least), was wearing a pair of neon green windbreaker pants and a white and neon green Ralph Lauren t-shirt (obviously a set). All of the guys had on sunglasses. As soon as Nick walked up, A.J. made a comment about his clothing choice.

"Yo, Nick, Let's try not to stand out too much today," he said gesturing that his neon green apparel might draw attention.

They were only taking six bodyguards with them and they all had their cell phones. Nick was ahead of everyone but stopped and waited for Jen to catch up. He grabbed her hand and swung it happily as they walked toward the van.

"I didn't want to wake you up last night. So, I carried you up to your room," he said.

"Oh thanks," she said.

Because there was only one van available, there wasn't enough room for everyone to have a seat. Jen ended up on Nick's lap and Denise was on A.J.'s lap. The rest of the afternoon, they just walked around, taking in the sights. Luckily, they were only sighted a few times, but nothing too major. At 4:00, they got back on the van and headed to the coliseum. Jen took a seat on the front row, while Fatima worked with them on their choreography for a little while. Jen was just sitting there watching them when all of a sudden, Nick fell on the stage. He started yelling and rolling around on the stage. Jen jumped out of her chair and bounded up the stairs to the stage. Kevin and Brian were the first to get to him. His face was cringing from pain.

"Nick, what happened?" asked Kevin.

"My ankle, my ankle," he yelled.

Fatima finally made it over to him.

"Okay, okay. Calm down, calm down, Nick," she said.

"Tell me what hurts," she said.

"My ankle," he yelled.

"Jennifer, your his girlfriend. Try to keep him calm," said Brian. Jen moved over and took his hand and laid his head in her lap. One of the security guards came over and examined his ankle.

"We need to take him to the emergency room. Even though, I think it's just sprained," the guy said.

Kevin, Brian, and one of the security guards carried Nick to the bus. All of us piled on the bus and took Nick to the hospital. Denise phoned the hospital and notified them. The entire time, from the coliseum to the hospital, which took about fifteen minutes, Nick jerked and squirmed in pain. He wouldn't let anyone else touch him at all, but Jen. Nick started sweating from dealing with the pain. Every once in a while, he'd squeeze his eyes shut really tight. When they finally got to the hospital, the doctors were ready for him.

Jen and Brian were the only ones who went with Nick to be examined. Jen took Nick's hand and every time the doctor touched his foot, he'd squeeze her hand extremely tight. After they decided it was just sprained, they put him in a brace and gave him crutches and a prescription for the pain. They were at the hospital about an hour and a half. Kevin looked at his watch.

"Oh no. We've got to get back, it's almost 6:00. The concert is at 7:30," he said. The doctors told Nick that he would probably have to sit out the next two shows. He grimaced and sighed in disappointment. During the show, Jen sat in the backstage area with Nick. The audience had been very disappointed that Nick would not be performing that night. News of Nick's injury spread quickly and before anyone knew it, Nick had received thousands upon thousands of letters and cards from fans from all over the country. There were even flowers and stuffed animals. Three days after the incident, Jen and Nick were sitting in their hotel room watching TV and reading letters and cards.

"You know Jen, don't you ever get jealous that all of these girls are sending me all of these cards and stuff?" he asked.

Jen got up and came over to his bed and sat beside him. He put his arm around her and waited for her reply.

"You know, I thought I was getting jealous for a little while, but then I realized that there was no point in being jealous. They're sending you cards for sympathy. I mean, I'm the only person you would even let touch you all the way to the hospital. I know you care about me and I care about you too. These girls can send you a million more cards. As long as I can send you a sweet kiss," she finished.

At that, they started making out on the bed. About three minutes into this make out session, Brian burst through the door connecting their two rooms. Nick and Jen jumped up but it was too late. Brian stood there in shock.

"I'm sorry you guys," he said and went quietly back into his own room. When he left, Nick and Jen looked at each other and burst out laughing. That was the first time they had gotten caught making out.
