Chapter 2 : The Meeting

She must have dozed off, because when she woke up it was 5:30am. Her brother was asleep in the bed beside her. She guessed her parents were probably asleep in the next room. She couldn't get back to sleep, so she got out her CD player and listened to her favorite group, the Backstreet Boys. They had a new album out. She had been in love with them for about a year and a half now. After about an hour, she got sleepy, so she decided to try to go back to sleep again. This time she fell asleep.

When she woke up this time, it was 9:00am. Her parents were up in the other room of the condo, getting ready for the beach. She decided to do the same. She put on a new bikini. She got down to the beach and laid out her towel. There wasn't many people on the beach. After she had been there about a half hour, another girl came and put her towel down about fifteen feet away. Jen decided to put her headphones on. Of course, she listened to BSB (come on, what else would she listen to).

"What are you listening to?" asked the girl beside her.

Jen turned over to look at her through her sunglasses. She was wearing a pastel yellow bikini. She had long blond hair and a very dark tan.

"Backstreet Boys," Jen replied.

The girl chuckled lightly as if pleased about something.

"I know a lot of people don't like them," Jen continued.

"I really don't have a choice," she replied quietly.

Against the waves crashing and the other noises on the beach, Jen couldn't tell what she had said.

"Excuse me?" Jen asked.

"Nevermind," the girl said.

Jen was about to end the conversation, when the girl spoke again.

"My name is B.J," she said.

"Jennifer. I have heard that name somewhere bef..."

Jen stopped dead in her tracks (or words might I say).

" Are you the B.J. that I'm thinking about?" Jen asked.

"That depends on who your talking about," B.J. said.

"Is your last name," Jen paused. "Carter?"

"Yes," B.J. replied.

Jen's heart stopped all together. She couldn't believe that she was actually talking to Nick's sister. Or was it Nick's sister? Maybe this girl was just pulling her leg.

"Hey, how do I know that your not jippin' me? Jen asked.

"Here's my driver's license," she said and handed is to Jen.

Sure enough it was B.J. Carter. She looked just like Nick (and Aaron). They talked for what seemed like forever; actually about an hour. Then, B.J. asked if she'd like to go to her house. WOULD SHE? But, she remembered to stay calm, so she replied:

"Sure."

Jen checked with her mom and they were off. Jen and B.J. really hit it off. Since they didn't live near the beach, it took about a half hour to get there. Plus, there was a lot of traffic. Finally, they pulled up to a gate. B.J. called up to the house from the intercom and the gate opened.

"Who all is at home?" Jen asked.

"You mean like from...business?"

"Yeah," Jen replied.

"I'm pretty sure everyone. Nick's home, I'm sure of that, because he just got home from Europe the day before yesterday," she said.

The house was so beautiful. It was very big. When they got in the house, everything was silent.

"Hello?" called B.J.

Just then, they both heard thundering down the stairs. "I still beat you, Aaron," Nick said.

"Yeah, but I wanna re-match," Aaron retaliated.

"Aaron, you always want a re-match," Nick said laughing.

Both of them walked into the kitchen area when B.J. and Jen were.

"Hey, what are you doing here?" Nick asked obviously not noticing Jen in the kitchen.

"I thought I lived here," B.J. said in such a non-conscious effort that it seemed as though she was used to it.

"I thought you went to the beach," said Nick.

"I did. Nick, I'd like you to meet Jennifer. I met her on the beach today. Jennifer, this is my annoying, loud, childish, crazy, loving, older brother, Nick."

"Hi," Nick said in disbelief at his sister bringing home someone she just met.

Nick shook Jen's hand. Looking at her with the biggest blue eyes. His hair was a mess. He was wearing a white Timberland t-shirt and a pair of cargo khaki shorts. He looked so F-I-N-E!

"B.J. can I see you in the living room for a moment? We'll be right back, Jennifer," he said.

Jen just stood there in the kitchen.

"B.J, I can't believe you did that. This is completely not like you," Nick said partially scolding his younger sister in a big bro type way.

"I didn't do this for you. In fact, it didn't occur to me that I was taking a BSB fan to Nick Carter's house till I got halfway here," B.J. shot out.

"I'm sorry B.J.," said Nick sympathetically

"I just want to hang out with someone that's normal. And, why can't you be her friend too? She's a very nice girl and she doesn't look like she could be that much harm. Think about it Nick, if she was a crazy, obsessed fan, don't you think she would have already gone biserk!" B.J. retaliated.

"Alright," said Nick.

They went back into the kitchen and met Jen. B.J. and Jen went to BJ's bedroom. It was the first room on the second floor. BJ's room was cool. It had lots of posters on the wall. Things like Titanic, Dawson's Creek, and Varsity Blues. She was obviously in love with Dawson's Creek. Her room was a baby blue. She had a double bed and two windows overlooking the water behind her house. Jen stayed at her house all afternoon. They listened to music and talked about guys. She couldn't believe that BJ Carter was this down-to-earth teenager.

About 6:00pm, Jen called her mother. BJ had asked her if she could spend the night. So, BJ drove her to her hotel to get her stuff to spend the night. They got back to the house around 8:00pm, after a stop at McDonald,s. Nick was envious when they got home, arguing that it wasn't fair that the girls ate at McDonald's.

Later that night, BJ and Jen were watching television in the den, when the phone rang. BJ picked it up.

"Hello? Oh hi, Brian. Supboy?...You ain't called me in a long time....Busy? Whatever! Well, I'll yell at Nick" she said.

She called him and he came in the living room from the kitchen, where he was making himself a sandwich. It was on a cordless phone, so he took it in the kitchen.

"Hey, you want some chips or something?" BJ asked.

"Sure."

"Alright," she said.

BJ met Nick coming out of the kitchen with his sandwich, drink, and phone. He was still talking to Brian. Jen jumped off the couch to help him.

"Thanks," he said.

"Who are you talking to?" Brian asked on the other end.

"One of BJ's new friends. She likes BSB. Her name is Jennifer," Nick replied.

"Yes, she's cute Brian," he said laughing.

Jen blushed. She could feel her face growing red hot.

"Do you have a boyfriend?" asked Nick smiling.

"No," Jen said embarrassed.

"No, Brian...Are you crazy?!...Yeah, I think so, but I don't even know her."

Brian said a little more and then Nick told him that he had to go and eat his sandwich. About that time, BJ came back in with a big bag of chips and two sodas.

"Can you believe that guy?" Nick asked when he finally hung up.

"He wanted me to ask you out," he finished.

"And of course you wouldn't," Jen mumbled sarcastically.

"Well, I don't know you," he said.

"That's never stopped one of my relationships before" Jen said.

"Well okay. Fine then. You seem nice enough and your very cute. I'll go out with you," he said getting up and taking his trash into the kitchen.

"Y,Y,You mean, j,j,just like that," Jen said astonished, following him into the kitchen.

"Sure. Why not?"

Jen thought she'd die just like that. BJ was perplexed also.

"Nick. Do you know what your saying?" she asked.

"What's so weird about this? Come on Jen, do you want to come up to my room?" he said.

"Yeah, okay. I'll be right there," she said.

"Do you mind, BJ?"

"Go ahead. I don't care. Knock yourself out," she said smiling.

"Thanks a bunch," Jen said and climbed the stairs and up to Nick and Aaron's room

When Jen got to their room, he was playing Playstation with Aaron. She recognized the game. It was Coolboarders 3. Jen couldn't believe what was going on. She actually went out with Nick Carter. Maybe, this vacation won't be as stupid and pointless as she had first thought.
