Nick had felt many emotions over the twenty-three year span that was better known as his life. Hurt, pain, anger, betrayal, and surprisingly enough a happiness that he could not even begin to describe to another being. Most of these emotions over took him when his wife passed. That was probably the hardest thing that a man would even have to live through. Not only that, but the feeling of helplessness. He was a widower at Twenty-Two, all alone in the world with an infant son. Gavin, the reason he even got up in the mornings after he learned of his wife’s death. Gavin needed him, and he needed Gavin more than he needed anyone. He was the only tie he had to his wife, the one thing that would forever be there to remind him of the love he had once shared. He loved Gavin more than anything.
Things were hard for a long time, why lie about it. He could barely make it through the day without falling into a heap on the floor, holding his son, and crying for everything he was worth. He honestly couldn’t picture life without Amanda for the longest time. He held on to the hope that she would magically come walking through the door and take away all the pain he was feeling on the inside. Life continued on, even though Nick couldn’t quite understand how there was a life without her by his side. He grew to be a better parent, he read book after book, determined to make up for the lack that he thought Gavin would feel by not having a mother.
His friends and family tried their best to help him out in everyway imaginable. They offered to come and clean, take Gavin for the weekend, to give him a break. Nick couldn’t bear the thought of being separated from Gavin, even if the little guy was driving him nuts. He needed Gavin to function. He was his son, and he knew he would have to take responsibility for him. He couldn’t let his mother, or sisters raise him. He wanted to be the one that Gavin knew. He friends tired to get him to go out, date, but Nick would not even listen to it. He had givin his heart away. Amanda still held his heart, which was one thing he never got back.
