The days following their great date, Kayleigh and Nick spent as much
time together as humanly possible. He met her everyday at work with
Gavin for lunch, and then she came by the house when she got off.
She usually left late that evening and started the whole thing over
again the next day.
She had taken a couple days off from the clinic and Nick was going
to take Gavin to Brian's. They had planned to lock themselves up in
Kayleigh's house for a couple days and actually spend some time
together. It was difficult when they had Gavin around all of the
time. Nick still didn't feel quite comfortable kissing her in front
of his son.
"I wans to go wib you daddy," Gavin whined tugging on Nick's sleeve.
Nick was trying unsuccessfully to leave his son with his best
friend. He was having one of his closeness fits and didn't seem to
want to let go of Nick, which made it even more difficult for Nick
to say goodbye.
"I'll be back in a couple days munchkin. I'll call you all the time.
Please just let daddy have these couple of days and we'll go to the
toy store and get you a bunch of toys ok? You love staying with Aunt
Leighanne and Uncle Brian anyways." Nick pleaded with his son.
Gavin nodded his head and wrapped his arms around his father. Nick
hugged him back tightly and prayed that he would be able to leave
him. He didn't deal well with separation either, but he did want
time alone with Kayleigh. He kissed the top of Gavin's head and
handed him to Leighanne.
"I love you baby," Nick said waving at Gavin.
"I wobs you too daddy," Gavin said blowing kisses in the air.
Nick turned and walked to his truck, knowing that if he didn't leave
then he wasn't going to be able to. After backing out of the
driveway he headed towards the far end of town where Kayleigh lived.
Millions of thought coursed his mind. His stomach turned and he had
the feeling something big was going to happen. Just what it was and
how big of a deal it would be, he had no clue.
Learning to breathe
I'm learning to crawl
I'm finding that You and You alone can break my fall
I'm living again, awake and alive
I'm dying to breathe in these abundant skies
