The day couldn't have gone any better in Nick's opinion. They ate
dinner at a fancy restaurant and then walked along the coastline as
the sun was setting. The whole day was romantic, and knowing that
they had confessed how much they liked each other earlier in the day
just made it better.
"Do you ever want to get married again Nick?" Kayleigh asked, her
question catching him off guard.
He stopped walking for a moment and stared at the ocean. Would he
ever want to get married again? Would he ever want to take that
large step and actually put all his feelings on the line? He wasn't
sure. There was a lot that went on with being married.
"I'm not sure," Nick answered truthfully. "I mean if I really knew
that she was really the one that God had intended for me to marry,
than I suppose I would, but marriage isn't something you go into
halfheartedly. You have to really love a person to marry them."
Nick turned and looked at her for a moment. Before taking both of
her hands in his.
"What made you ask that?" He asked softly watching the emotions
running through her eyes.
"I'm not sure, I guess it's just something I have wondered about for
awhile." She said looking down at the sand.
They walked a ways further without stopping. The silence enveloped
them and held them both tightly. They enjoyed just being together,
knowing that they were on the same wavelength. Nick was the next one
to speak.
"Do you ever want kids of your own?" He asked staring up at the sky,
embarrassed.
She didn't say anything for a few moments making Nick nervous. He
shuffled his feet in the sand and tried to wait patiently for her
answer. He wanted more children that was for sure if he ever married
again.
"I do want my own children, if I am married to a man that I know
won't hurt them. I don't want my kids to have to grow up the same
way I did." She said avoiding his gaze
Nick nodded but didn't speak. He knew she understood his reasons for
being sure about a person before he got married, and he understood
her. She was still so hurt and broken, because of what one evil man
did to her. He wished he could go and strangle the man himself for
putting her through so much pain.
She hugged him suddenly, just needing the closeness and security
that only his arms provided. She loved nothing else that to be
wrapped up in his arms. It was if nothing could touch her there. She
wrapped her arms around his neck and hugged him hard.
`I love you," She whispered in his ear, for only him to hear.
"I love you too angel." He replied kissing her forehead.
Everybody wants to be loved,
It's been a long time coming,
Every once in a while,
We all need someone to hold on to,
Just like a helpless child.
Can you whisper in my ear,
Let me know it's alright?
Down this road,
Now I know what I've been waiting for
It's like a lonely highway
And I'm tryin' to get home,
Oh love, it's been a long time coming.
