The ride to the police station was a quiet one. Kayleigh and Nick
hardly spoke at all, and Aaron, and Gavin were off in their own
little worlds. Gavin soon fell asleep. At one point though,
Kayleigh had noticed Nick's hands shaking and silently took it into
her own, hoping it brought his some kind of comfort. Nick hated the
fact that she could tell how he felt just be looking at him. He
hated appearing that open. He wished that she would trust him enough
to talk to him, the way that he had her.
"Kayleigh, sorry our mom is a psycho," Aaron said from the
backseat. "I hope she doesn't scare you off,"
Kayleigh laughed softly.
"Nothing will scare me away from your brother," She said patting
Nick's arm.
He smiled down at her and squeezed her hand tightly. Nick mentally
scolded himself for feeling so affectionate. Was it too soon? Could
he really be falling for her the way her thought he was? He couldn't
be. It was too soon to be in love with someone else. Dating was one
thing, but falling in love was never part of the plan.
"Hey bro. Where's everyone gonna sit?" Aaron asked suddenly noticing
they wouldn't have enough room.
Nick shrugged. "Not my problem. I was just told to pick them up. If
anything, we'll make Gavin sit on Kayleigh's lap, and that will free
up and extra spot." Nick said looking at Kayleigh.
She nodded and turned on the radio. The tension in that car was
starting to get to her and she needed something to distract
herself. They pulled into the parking lot of the police station
about ten minutes later. Aaron helped Kayleigh get Gavin out of his
car seat. He had just woken up, and thankfully he wasn't that
fussy. Kayleigh cradled the child against her side, and took Nick's
hand. Nick threw and arm around Aaron's shoulder and together the
four of them entered the station.
Angel was the first to spot the quartet as they came inside. She
stood up and met them halfway down the hallway. She hugged her twin
tightly, and then stood back to look at her older brother. She
mentally wondered whom the mystery woman was holding her nephew, but
decided not to say anything. She hugged Nick lightly and turned
back to Aaron.
"Did you hear what happened?" She asked mischievously. Smiling at
her brother.
" I heard what the police told Nick," Aaron said glancing at his
brother.
She rolled her eyes at the mention of her older brother and grabbed
Aaron's arm. She drug him to the seating area, that she had
previously been seated in and then began to relay the story. Nick
took Kayleigh's hand and went in search of the officer that had
notified him.
