Kayleigh sighed and closed her eyes. The sun had long since set and had casted darkness over everything around. She hated the dark. It reminded her of her past. She rubbed her arms and was thankful she had worn long sleeves. She was not sure if she was ready to tell him about her troubled past. She could not for the life of her figure out what had possessed him to open up and talk to her the way he did. She could tell that it wasn’t something he talked about with just anyone, and it touched her that he felt like he could trust her like that, since that had only known each other a few days.
She wished her father cared about her the way that Nick cared about Gavin. God only knew what went through her father’s head every time he struck her or her mother. He didn’t care about her, or what she did with her life. She was thankful when she was old enough to move out and get away from the pain and anguish he had caused her.
She jumped lightly when Nick touched her shoulder. She had gotten lost in the own world again, a world filled with pain and torture that she would be thankful to forget, but that would be too simple.
She smiled at Nick and stood. He led her back into the house with a happy baby in his arms. The nap had done Gavin well and he was now extreamly playful. She took him from Nick and cradled him in her arms.
“You looked a little lost out there,” Nick teased as he dug around in the refrigerator.
She laughed and her cheeks turned a dark crimson. “I tend to do that a lot, sorry,”
“It’s ok,” he said shrugging it off. “You hungry?”
“Yes, starving now that you mention it.” She said looking at him.
“Good,” he smirked. “I’ll cook”
He sat to work pulling out various items from cabinets and drawers. She busied herself talking to Gavin.
“Is wanna watch phishy mobie.” He said giggling.
“Oh really, you like Finding Nemo, huh,” She cooed back at him.
“Yah! It is good. I wob phishy,” he said watching her hand as it came in contact with his tummy,
She tickled him lightly, and he squealed and cooed. Nick looked at him curiously and laughed at the faces he was making. He loved his son more than words sometimes. He could not believe that he had told her all of that. He had not meant to. He just felt so at ease and open with her. He wanted her to understand the situation. A large part of him wanted her to be in the situation. It was ridiculous considering they had barley know each other for a whole day. He didn’t understand the strange feelings he was starting to have for her; he just knew he didn’t want them to stop.
You speak and it's like a song

And just like that all my walls come down
It's like a private joke just meant for us to know
I relate to you naturally
Everybody else just fades away
Sometimes it's hard to breathe
Just knowing you found me
