Chapter 8 - Kiss me, I'm happy!

Reina glared at the diamond-coated watch she wore around her wrist. "10:24...only?" she whined to herself as she slouched at the table she sat at. "Fun" was non-existent for her that night. Ever since she arrived, she had not said one word to Nick. Those of whom she had talked to bore her out of her wits end. "Now I know what it feels like to be dragged by a horse through mud, in slow motion, because this must be how it feels!" she grunted to herself as a sign of desparation within her emerged: she wanted to pull time forward so that her ride will be there to take her home. "Excuse me," she stood up from her table as headed for the nearest exit.

She found a door that led out to a small garden with a fountain in the middle where two marbled angel statues stood proud and tall above. It was a garden with a circular form and had flowers as boundaries between the pebbled pavement and the grassy area. Lights of different colors outlined the border all the way around. Reina's soft pink gown was complimented by the colors of the lights in the garden and made it seemed like she shimmered. She tilted her head back as she looked up at the clear sky above her head.

She felt relieved to be away from the party that continued on inside. "Now I know what happens when you take snotty people and put them all in the same room: HELL!" she sighed as she continued to gaze up at the sky, with stars twinkling across it, and the moon shone brightly. A cool breeze past my her and she felt relieved from the scent of the fresh air that had faint smells of the flowers in the garden.

"Shouldn't you be back in there then?" a man's voice called out from behind the fountain across from her. Reina's reverie was interrupted as she seeked of who the voice belonged to.

"Nick?" she said with a question mark in her voice.

"Guilty," he said revealing himself. He looked mysterious but magical at the same time as half of his body was into the light and the other part had a shadow cast upon it. "You're one of the snotty ones, aren't you?" he insulted

"I beg your pardon?" Reina felt insulted and hurt

"Oh come on, I've heard people talk about you, and after yesterday's meeting with you and how I saw the way you treat people who has less than you ... combine all those people in there and it creates you!" he claimed with no hint of regret in his voice from the words that escaped his mouth.

Reina felt her heart ache and her eyes teary. "How can you say such cruel things?"

"Cruel? I'm surprise you know what that means!"

"Don't stand there and judge me! You don't know me!" her voice raised as she walked towards him. "You ... you've never seen the things I have seen, nor experience the things I have experienced. Unless you can see my world through my eyes, you have no right!"

Nick completely ignored the things Reina said. "So what made you change?" he asked her, looking deep into her big, brown eyes.

"What?" she said in a breathy voice that trembled a little bit.

Nick let out a small laugh as he walked closer to her and stood beside her, not breaking the eye contact they made. "Something tells me you're not that same person that I met yesterday compared to the person standing here beside me right now."

"What do you mean?" her heart skipped a beat. Could he have known? Even if he did, it's not like she did anything wrong. She never opted of switching placed with Hailey. It just happened. She's a victim just as much as Hailey is.

"Suddenly there's emotions in your voice," he began to utter out. "Your voice quivers with feelings, your eyes speak with boredom, tranquility, and now pain. Your hands are shaking from fear; though what kind of fear!"

Reina let out a small chuckle. "You've lost me, I'm afraid"

"Maybe this will clear it up a bit for you," Nick leaned in swiftly closer to her as he grabbed Reina by her waist and pressed his lips against hers. "Suddenly you seem real," he whispered to her as he pulled away slightly but their lips still touching as their breaths were mixed with the other. He looked deep into her eyes as he ran his fingers across her smooth cheek, and within seconds, the two began to kiss once more.

Reina let out a small, quiet moan while wrapping her arms around his neck. The wind blew its gentle blow around them as Reina's gown danced with the air. For once in her life, things seemed perfect and in that moment, she knew what 'happiness' means!
