Chapter 1

"Every girl wants you to be her man, but I'll wait my dear till it's my turn. I'm not the kinda girl who gives up just like that, oh no! The tide is high but I'm holding on, I'm gonna be your number one, number one, num..."

Before she could finish singing along to the distant sound of a radio playing in the background, she was interrupted by a sudden bang of something heavy and hard hitting against the table behind her.

"I need this dry cleaned, pronto!" a redhead woman carelessly handed her a bundle of dirty clothes. "After you're done with that, I need for you to clean this place up. I'm having some very important company later in the day and this place is just a sty! You need to also run some errands for me. I have the grocery list on the note table in the kitchen, and while you're at it, I need you to pick some stuff up at the pharmacy, and also the flower shop. I had the store arrange some fresh flowers for me today so that this place will look a little livelier than it does now. When you're done with that I nee...Rei are you listening?"

"Yes, Miss Palmer, I'm listening," she said solemnly, whole looking down on the floor as she clenched a duster on her hand.

Hailey Thompson let out an exaperated sigh as she rolled her eyes back, feeling irritability towards her hired helped. "Hmm, well I suppose that will be all for now. Don't forget a single thing of what I have asked for you to do! I need all these done within the next few hours!"

"Yes, Miss Palmer"

"Stop calling me that!" Hailey snapped while raising both her open palms close to her ears to signify her irritation. "And one more thing, the singing? What the hell is that? I don't pay you to sing! I pay you to clean! So do what you're being paid and do it right, got it?"

"Ye...yes, Miss Pa...I mean, Miss Hailey," she stammered and choked at her own words.

"I'm off to the parlour," she gazed at her servant, looking at her in disgust, followed by primping herself up, and a storm out of the room. If body language spoke out loud, it would be yelling out Hailey's evident embarrassment of being in the same room as someone of a lower class than her.

Reina Reves, but mostly known as and referred to as "Rei" is a 21 year old young lady hoping to someday make it in the world. She grew up in a family of very little fortune where she experienced what it was like to go through the day without food on the table and shelter around her. With the free high school education the government provided, she managed to attain her high school diploma finishing in the top ten of her class. But the high demands of money of University schools all over, it was completely out of the question for her to continue her education and make something of herself. She decided to stop school for a few years and save up some money that will help give her a head start in getting her college degree.

Things are not going as smoothly as she had hoped it to be. The little money she made working as a servant: an unrespected servant for Hailey Palmer, the daughter of a rich, established and powerful Judge in the state of Florida, mostly went to the bill payments she had to make every end of the month. The rest, regardless of how little, went to food, and occasionally, clothes.

Reina never acquired the attitude and elegance of such women as Hailey. She had a rather poor posture that was covered by, more often than not, raggedy old clothes that seemed to have been bought at an old trodden thrift store. She had long, dark brown hair that was often tied up in a messy bun, with a few stray hairs because of her hectic job. Her big, dark brown eyes were hidden behind glasses that are close to falling apart.

Many people never pay attention to her, especially men. Her entire life, she had never experienced what it was like to be with a guy; what it felt like to walk along the street, holding hands with a man that noticed only her. She didn't know what it felt like to be kissed and lifted off the ground.

Reina Reves existed, but to the world, she was invisible: it was her harsh "gift" of reality that she must accept.
