Jazlynn rolled over in bed and stared at the picture of her and Nick. They we're holding hands and looking very much in love. She sighed and rolled onto her back to stare up at the ceiling. The distance was killing her inside. He was away on tour for the next three months. The steamy phone calls, emails and letters can only do so much for her. Yes, she loves him but him being away is tearing her apart. The phone ringing pulled her out of her thoughts. She grabbed the phone from the night stand and put the receiver to her ear. "Hello?" She sighed when the other voice spoke.
"Hey."
"How are you doing, Nick?"
"Fine, other than missing you, baby. I wish you could be here with me."
She felt her eyes welling up with tears as he spoke. "I wish I could too, Nick." She sniffled and she could hear Nick sigh.
"Don't cry Angel. You know I will be home soon. We have a break for three days here in about a week, I'm coming home to see you."
A small smile played across her lips. "I know. It's just hard for me. I was never away from you than you are pulled abruptly from my life. It's hard for me to adjust to sleeping alone, Nick." She felt a fresh pool of tears start welling up in her eyes.
"I love you, Jazlynn. I really do. You are the first woman that I have ever loved. I want you in my life forever."
"I know you love me, Nick and I love you." She could hear someone in the background and she knew he had to get going. "Nick, I should let you go. Seems that you are getting busy or something."
"Yeah, AJ is saying we have to sound check here in five minutes. I will call you later tonight, okay baby?"
"You know I'll be here, Love."
"Alright, I love you Jazlynn."
"I love you Nickolas." She heard the other end hang up and she placed the phone back on the charger. Her eyes widen slightly and she scrambled for her pen and paper. She was inspired to write down a song at the moment. There was a certain song that she had been working on since Nick left, and it was all going to come together right than and there. She flipped open her notebook and glanced at the words that we're scrambled across the paper.
The sky has lost it's color
The sun has turned to grey
At least that's how it feels to me
Whenever you're away
I crawl up in the corner
As I watch the minutes pass
Each one brings me closer to
The time when you'll be back
You're coming back
She grabbed her pen and started to write down the lyrics that we're coming to her. In about ten minutes the song was finished and she was happy with the way it looked.
The sky has lost it's color
The sun has turned to grey
At least that's how it feels to me
Whenever you're away
I crawl up in the corner
As I watch the minutes pass
Each one brings me closer toThe time when you'll be back
You're coming back
I can't take the distance
I can't take the miles
I can't take the time
Until the next time I see you smile
I can't take the distance
And I'm not ashamed
That I can't take a breath without saying your name
I can brave a hurricane
And still be standing tall when all the dust has settled down
But I can't take the distance
I still believe in feelings
But sometimes I feel too much
I make believe you're close to me
But it ain't close enough
Not nearly close enough
*~*~*~A Week Later~*~*~*
Nick sighed and slipped his key in the door and opened it slightly, smiling when the familiar surroundings took him in. "Jazlynn!" he called as he shut the front door and locked it behind him. He set his bags on the foyer floor and went to look for his girlfriend. He searched the whole downstairs, no sign of her. So, he decided to head upstairs, maybe she was sleeping. He quietly opened the door to their bedroom and stepped inside, sighing when Jazlynn wasn't there but on the bed there was an envelope. He walked over and picked up the paper and gingerly opening the envelope. He pulled out the stationary paper and read what she had wrote.
Dear Nick,
I know that when you get this you are going to be confused and upset with me. I couldn't stay in a relationship that the other person isn't around to be with me. I knew what you did, and I shouldn't have let myself fall in love like I did. I knew I couldn't take being away from you for so long. I'm just not that strong. You know that I was never good with writing letters, so I wrote this song that explains things a little bit better. I love you.
Jazlynn
Silent tears fell down his cheeks when he read the letter and the song lyrics that we're attached to the paper. She had left. He knew that the distance was hard for her, he just didn't realize that it would cause her to leave him. He couldn't believe that she left. He wouldn't let himself believe that. He walked over to her closet and flung open the door, only to reveal open space. All of her things we're gone. He sank down on his knees, griping her letter in his hand. He fell back against the wall and let out a quiet sob. "Reality sucks."
(A Year Later)
The shrill ringing of her cell phone made Jazlynn jump from her spot on the couch. "I need to turn the ringer down." She laughed and stood up, heading over to where her cellphone was placed on the kitchen counter. She quickly picked it up and sighed lightly when she didn't recognize the name on the caller ID. "Hello?"
"Jazlynn Michel?"
"Yes. This is her."
"Hello Jazlynn. My name is Clive Davis, I own Jive Records."
"Hey, Mr.Davis." She sighed and slouched down on the couch, wondering what the hell he was doing calling her.
"Well Jazlynn, the reason that I am calling is because last week I got some sheet music with some lyrics that we're written by you." he glanced down at the paper. "The song was called "The Distance."
A small gasp left her lips and she immediately sat up. "Yeah. That's my song. How did you get it? I never sent it to you, or anyone for that matter."
"It was given to me anonymously by my secretary. I am very interested in having one of my Artists record the song. If you would let me."
She sighed and thought that maybe this could be her big break for writing music. "Sure. Do you know whom you have in mind to record the song?"
"Not as of right now, but I am looking into some possible artists. All you need to do is come on down to Jive and sign some papers, giving us permission to use the song and all of that stuff. What is a good time for you too meet with me?"
"Anytime works for me." A smile was now tugging on the corner of her lips.
"How about three this afternoon?"
"Sure. That would be great. I will see you than Mr. Davis."
"Call me Clive." He chuckled. "Three this afternoon than, Jazlynn. Call me if you have any problems or concerns before you meet with me."
"Will do. Thanks." She hung up the phone and couldn't help but scream. "This is so not happening to me.".
Jazlynn left Jive, a smile on her face. She couldn't be happier right now at this moment. She had signed all of the papers that needed to be signed and was even invited to the party Clive Davis was handling in a week. It was just one of his big shot parties, where everyone and their brother would be there. She didnt think that she was going to go, seeing as no one would know her and she would be a total outkast to the whole event. She sighed and hopped in her car and sped off. She was going to decline the invitation to the party.
(3 Months Later)
Jazlynn jumped out of the shower, and walked over to her radio, turning it to a top 40 radio station. She towel dried her hair and suddenly stopped.
"This is new music from Backstreet Boy, Nick Carter. The song is called "The Distance" You hear it first on All hit 96.9."
She could feel her heart stop and drop down into her stomache. They let Nick record her song? No way. She walked over and inched up the sound, making sure this was true. Sure enough Nick's Angelic voice sang the lyrics, that she had written for him. "Fuck..." Was all that could escape her lips. Her phone rang and she rushed over to it and picked it up. "Hello?" She said breathlessly.
"Jazlynn?"
"Nick?"
"Yeah, it's me."
"What are you doing calling me?" She was surprised more than anything. She hadn't heard from him in over a year, why was he calling her now? Because he recorded her song?
"I was wondering if you we're listening to the radio." she smiled to herself because he squeeked a few times, giving her the indication that he was nervous.
"Yeah. You sounded great singing my song."
"I told them that I didn't want to do it because of the past, but they insisted that I would be the man for the job, so I said fine." he let out a long sigh. "I miss you."
Her breath caught in her throat but a knock at the door caused her to stop. "Hold on a minute please..." She walked down the long winding stairs and flung open the door. She put the phone back up to her ear. "Nick, I have to go. The love of my life is standing on my stairs."
"Okay. Goodbye." Was all he said as he hung up the phone.
A huge smile formed on her lips. "I can't believe it."
Nick smiled. "I love you, Jazlynn." He slipped his cellphone in his pocket and brushed a piece of his hair out of his face.
"I love you too, Nick." Tears welled up in her eyes as she walked towards his open arms. His arms quickly enveloped her in a hug and this time he wasn't going to let go. Ever.
