Here we stand, worlds apart, hearts broken in two.
I met someone.
With those three simple words, his world fell apart. His heart ceased to beat in his chest, and what was left of it had broken in half. He blinked, not wanting to believe her words. Who? he asked, numb from the neck down.
His name is Trevor, she replied. You were on tour for so long, and I just couldn't take it anymore, Nick. Lindsay looked up at him with sad eyes. I didn't wanna be alone anymore.
Out of pure male ego, Nick asked accusingly, Did you sleep with him?
No! she shouted, standing up. Nick, I would never cheat on anyone, you know that. But you're only home for, what, two days in two months. I can't have a boyfriend that I never see. It wouldn't be fair to either of us, you know that.
Nick sat down on the couch, defeated. You're right. It wouldn't. He looked up at her.But I still love you.
Lindsay shook her head. No, you don't. Nick, love can't be one-sided. I don't love you anymore, I'm sorry. Nick closed his eyes to try and block the pain, but it wouldn't cease.Nicky, I wanna be your friend, not your girlfriend.
That's not possible, he blurted out. Not humanly possible. Linds, there is no way that I could ever be just friends with you, you know that. He took a deep breath before answering. What I feel may be one-sided, but you know what? When this guy screws up, which I'm sure he'll do, ever guy does it I'll still be here.
Lindsay glared at him.You and your ego. I'm leaving, Nick. I'm not coming back. I promise you that much, she said, grabbing her purse and walking out the open back door.
Trevor, don't! Lindsay screamed as Trevor raised his hand to her face.
His blow sent her toward the wall. She slid toward the floor, holding her stinging cheek, whimpering slightly. Don't you scream at me, bitch! Trevor yelled. I know what you've been doing, and there's no way in hell that I'm gonna let you go without punishing you for it! Trevor grabbed Lindsay by her neck and dragged her into the bedroom, ignoring her kicking and screaming.
Man, I am so spent, Nick complained to Brian as they were getting off the tour bus after yet another four months of touring and promoting the new album.
I feel ya man, Brian yawned. I'm about ready to fall asleep standing up.
Yeah, all I want now is a long, hot shower and my bed. Aah, I actually get to sleep in MY OWN BED tonight. And it doesn't have wheels! Nick sighed. There is a God, and he loves me.
Brian chuckled. You're crazy, you know that? Hey, did Lindsay call you back yet?
Nick frowned. No, she didn't.
I thought you were gonna give the friends thing a try, Brian said, throwing his luggage from the bottom of the bus onto the pavement.
We were. At least I thought we were. I'm glad I convinced her that I'm not still in love with her. Gullible. That Trevor guy she's seeing. I dunno, he seems kinda controlling. I think I'm gonna give her another call tonight, and if she doesn't call back, I'll just stop by tomorrow or something.
Yeah, well, if you catch her, then tell her I miss her, Brian said, picking up a suitcase. I'll catch you around, Frack.
Yeah, later, Nick said, taking his keys out of his pocket and heading toward his truck.
When Nick pulled up to his house, he noticed someone sitting on his front step, their head in their hands. He rolled his eyes at the thought of dealing with yet another fan that had probably been waiting there all day for him to come home. He was tired, and didn't feel like dealing with a screaming teenybopper. But this girl didn't look like a teenybopper. She looked familiar.
Hello? he called out when he stepped out of the truck, realizing that she didn't hear him pull up. Can I help you with something?
She looked up to face him, tears still streaming down her cheeks. "Nick"...
His mouth dropped open at the sight of her. She had a black eye, her lip was swollen and her cheeks were bruised. And that was only her face. Her arms were covered in scratches and cuts, as well as being bruised. When she stood up, she walked toward him with a slight limp. Lindsay, what happened he asked, wrapping his arms around her, letting her cry on his shoulder.
I I didn't know where else to go Nicky, he got mad at me. I don't even know what I did wrong. My ankle hurts. I...I..
Shh, Nick said, trying to calm her down. Linds, everything's gonna be okay, I promise. Let's go inside, okay?
Lindsay shook her head, swallowing thickly before leaning on Nick for some support for her ankle.
He won't see you ever again Nick said, grabbing his phone and dialing a number. I'll make sure of that.
Trevor Madison? the man asked, walking into Trevor's office.
Yes, that's me, Trevor answered. Can I help you, Officer?
Mitchell, Officer Mitchell,he answered. And you can help me by coming along with me quietly.
What? What exactly are..
You're being arrested for the rape of Lindsay Hansen, you have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be held against you.
You are hereby sentenced to ten years in prison.
Lindsay smiled, standing by her lawyer. She glanced over at Trevor, who was being led away in handcuffs and smiled smugly. She looked back at Nick and Brian, who gave her smiles and Brian gave her the Thumbs Up Sign.
After the trial, Lindsay stood alone in the hallway with Nick. I'm surprised no media caught wind of this, she said, putting her arms around Nick's neck.
Nick smiled. The media can be bought, you of all people should know that, Nick said, slipping his arms around her waist.
Lindsay laughed. That's true. Nicky, why in the world did you do this for me, after what I said to you that day?
I still loved you, he replied, getting a smile from Lindsay. I always did.
You lied to me.
So what? I lie to everyone, Nick pointed out.
I'm your girlfriend! Lindsay exclaimed.
That just makes you more gullible. Lindsay made a face and kicked him softly on the knee. Oww, what was that for?
For lying to me about being in love with me, she said, letting go of Nick's neck and turning around to face a vending machine.
But I love you, Nick said, putting his arms around her waist.
I know, I know, Lindsay said, unable to stop smiling. She sighed. I can't believe I was such an idiot, thinking that I could ever get away from you.
Nick grinned. Nope. You can never get away from me. We may appear to go our separate ways, but you'll always end up with me. He kissed her on the cheek. Whether you like it or not.
