Chapter 3

True to his word, Nick came back and visited Adrianne the next day. The two of them walked outside to a little picnic table underneath a big tree.

"I brought you some food." Nick said. He handed Adrianne a Burger King bag.

"Thank you" Adrianne said, "This is much better than the crap they give us in the hospital."

Adrianne handed Nick a notebook.

"What's this?" Nick asked.

"Just some songs and poems I've written." Adrianne said, "I thought you'd like to see them."

Nick skimmed through them, "Wow, these are amazing. They're a little intense, but good."

"Thanks" Adrianne said, "I wrote most of them when I was feeling suicidal or having a crying attack."

"Crying attack?" Nick said.

Adrianne spoke, "Yeah, that's when I start crying all of a sudden for no reason."

"Oh" Nick said, "I'm sorry."

"It's ok" Adrianne said, "I'm use to it. It use to be much worse, before they put me on medication."

"Well, it's good you're doing that much to help yourself." Nick said, "Maybe now, you could try talking to a counselor."

Adrianne replied, "Please don't go there. I don't like being around people, except for you."

"Why?" Nick asked.

"I get really nervous and scared." Adrianne said, "It's hard for me to explain." Adrianne went to get up, but she accidentally fell and hit her leg.

"Oh my god!" Nick said, "Are you ok? Let me see..."

"NO!" Adrianne said, "I'm fine, really. It's not even bleeding."

"Yeah, but I still wanna see if it's ok." Nick said.

He pulled up Adrianne's pant leg and gasped. Nick now knew why Adrianne didn't want him to look. There was at least 20 scars all over her leg. Some of them were pretty deep.
