Adrianne still hadn't woken up yet, but she was making progress. She had squeezed Nick's hand two more times. Nick had actually eaten and gotten a little sleep. He wanted to look good for Adrianne, when she woke up.
Four hours later, Nick was sitting by Adrianne's bed, reading a book to her. When all of a sudden, Adrianne squeezed his hand. Nick looked up and saw Adrianne stirring.
"That's it, baby." Nick said, "You can do it."
Adrianne slowly opened her eyes and looked around.
Nick smiled, "Hey, Adri. It's about time you woke up. How are you?"
"Crappy" Adrianne said weakly.
Nick replied, "It's okay. You're gonna be fine. I'm gonna go get the doctor."
Adrianne had a sudden look of fear in her eyes. But, Nick explained to her that the other doctor had been fired and that Dr. West was really nice.
Dr. West walked in, "Well, it's good to see you awake, Adrianne. You gave us quite a scare for a while." He examined her. "You seem to be doing okay. Lets get you unhooked from all these things."
Dr. West unhooked the IV, heart monitor, etc.
"She's gonna be okay, right?" Nick asked.
"Yes" Dr. West said, "All she has to do now, is regain her strength. Adrianne, I'm sure you're hungry. I'll have the nurse bring you something to eat."
Once Dr. West left the room, Adrianne turned to Nick and said, "I'm sorry."
"You don't have to apologize." Nick said, "I'm glad you're alright. But, don't ever scare me like that again, okay?"
"Okay" Adrianne said.
A nurse came in and gave Adrianne a tray of food and then left. Nick helped Adrianne sit up a little bit.
Adrianne looked at the tray, "Nothing looks edible, Well, maybe I'll try the applesauce." She opened the little container of applesauce and ate a spoonful of it. "Ugh, this tastes horrible."
Nick laughed, "There's a McDonald's across the street. Want me to get you something?"
"If it's not too much trouble." Adrianne said.
"Of course, it's not." Nick replied, "I'll be back in a few minutes."
Nick returned fifteen minutes later with a cheeseburger, fries, and a small soda.
"Thanks" Adrianne said as she kissed Nick.
"Your welcome" Nick replied.
Adrianne happily ate her food.
"I missed seeing that smile." Nick said, "Do you remember what happened at all?"
Adrianne thought for a moment, "I was so upset after they kicked you outta here. I thought I'd never see you again. The doctor gave me electric shock to try to get me to talk. After that, the only thing I remember is slicing my wrist open and the blood pouring all over. Then, I guess I blacked out. How long was I asleep?"
"Almost two weeks." Nick told her.
"Wow" Adrianne said. "And you've been here the whole time?"
"Pretty much." Nick said.
"How did you find out what happened?" Adrianne asked.
"I ran into Emily one day." Nick replied, "She use to be a patient here."
"Yeah, I remember Emily." Adrianne said.
Nick leaned forward and kissed Adrianne, "I love you so much."
"I love you too." Adrianne said, kissing Nick back.
*A FEW DAYS LATER*
Adrianne had regained most of her strength and now able to walk around.
"I really don't think this is a good idea." Adrianne said as her and Nick walked down to the psychiatrist's office.
"Adri, I love you." Nick said, "But, I can only do so much. You need to talk to a professional about what's going on in that pretty little head of yours."
"Okay" Adrianne said, "I'll try. You're gonna come in with me?"
"Of course" Nick said.
Adrianne took a deep breath and opened the door.
Dr. Evans, the psychiatrist looked up, "Adrianne! This is a surprise. Did you want something?"
Adrianne was nervous and looked over at Nick.
"It's alright" Nick said.
Adrianne took another deep breath and finally talked, "H...Hi Dr. E...Evans."
Dr. Evans' jaw dropped, "OMG!!! You talked."
"Yes" Adrianne said, "I need help."
Dr. Evans smiled, "It's about time. Have a seat."
"Can Nick stay here with me?" Adrianne said.
"Of course, if that's what you want." Dr. Evans said.
Adrianne and Nick sat down on a small couch.
Nick smiled and kissed Adrianne, "I'm proud of you."
