"Hey, Nick" AJ said, "I was thin... Nick? Hello? Earth to Nick!"

Nick looked up, "Huh?"

AJ laughed, "Are you thinking about Adrianne?"

"I dunno what you're talking about." Nick said.

"Yeah, right" AJ replied, "I know you like Adrianne. I see the way you look at her."

Adrianne was walking back from lunch, when Christina came up to her.

"Hi, Adri. How's your boyfriend?" Christina asked.

"Nick is not my boyfriend." Adrianne said.

"Whatever" Christina replied, "I know the REAL reason why he's visiting you."

"What are you talking about?" Adrianne asked.

Christina handed Adrianne a newspaper that was from a few weeks ago, "I found this in the lobby. Read it."

Adrianne read the small article about Nick. It said that he had been required by the police to do community service at the hospital.

Christina laughed, "I knew it! I knew there had to be a reason why Nick Carter was coming to see you. He's only coming here because he has to. He doesn't REALLY wanna see you."

"Hi" Nick said as he entered Adrianne's room.

"Get out!!!" Adrianne cried.

Nick was confused, "What's going on, sweetie? Did someone hurt you?"

"Yeah, you did." Adrianne said.

"What are you talking about?" Nick asked.

Adrianne angrily gave Nick the paper, "I knew it was too good to be true. You only come to visit me because you have to. So, your ass wouldn't be thrown in jail. You don't care about me at all!"

"Adri, my community service ended two weeks ago."

Nick replied, "If I didn't care about you, then why would I keep coming here?"

"You're right" Adrianne said, "I'm sorry."

"It's ok" Nick said, "C'mon, lets go outside."

Adrianne and Nick walked outside. Nick could tell something was bothering Adrianne.

"What's the matter?" Nick asked.

Adrianne sighed, "I called one of my old friends from high school the other day. She was so mean, I couldn't believe it. She said I was a disappointment to everyone and that I should stay in the looney bin forever."

"If she said that, then she wasn't much of a friend to begin with." Nick said.

"She's right though." Adrianne said, "I am a disappointment. I wanted to be a famous song writer, and now look at me."

Nick replied, "Adrianne, you are NOT a disappointment. You're the most amazing person I've ever met. You smart, funny, kind, beautiful..."

"You think I'm beautiful?" Adrianne asked.

"Yes, I do" Nick told her.

Suddenly, Nick realized why he felt so connected to Adrianne - He was in love with her. From the moment Nick first saw Adrianne, he loved her. Nick leaned in closer to Adrianne until their faces were inches apart. He leaned in even closer and gently kissed Adrianne's lips. The kiss lasted about a minute, then Adrianne suddenly pulled back and looked like she was gonna cry. She turned away from Nick and started to run.

Nick ran after her, "Adri! Adri, wait! Please.... I'm sorry."

Finally, Adrianne stopped and said, "Don't be sorry. It's not you, it's me. I don't deserve you. You could probably have any girl you want. Why would you want some ugly freak like me?"

Nick held Adrianne's hand, "Come with me, I wanna show you something."

Nick lead Adrianne into the hospital and into one of the bathrooms. He took Adrianne over to the mirror and told her to look.

"No" Adrianne said, "I don't like looking into mirrors."

"Well, you're gonna whether you like it or not." Nick told her, "C'mon, I promise it won't be that bad."

Finally, after much hesitation, Adrianne looked into the mirror.

"I think you look gorgeous." Nick said, "You've got a great smile and beautiful eyes. I don't ever wanna hear you call yourself ugly again. I don't want any other girl. I want you. Can I ask you something?"

"Sure" Adrianne replied.

Nick looked a little nervous as he spoke, "Can I kiss you again?"

Adrianne smiled and nodded her head yes. Nick kissed her.

This is the first time in a long time that Adrianne felt truly happy.
