2002~~~New Jersey~~~The guys were at an out door stadium doing a concert when Nick slipped off of a ladder and fell 5 feet to the ground and became unconscious. He was rushed to a local hospital. The guys were told to wait in the private waiting room while Nick was treated in the ER. "Ok is there a relative here for Mr. Carter" a nurse asked walking into the waiting room. "Well no but..." Brian started to explained. "No we are not relatives but we have known each other for years, he my not be related to us by blood or marriage but he is our brother now what is wrong' Kevin asked standing up. "I can't tell you unless your related' the nurse insisted. A doctor came up to her and told her that she was going to explain what was wrong with Nick to them. "ok hi im..." she started. "Katie" they all asked not sure if this was the same Katie or somebody who just looked like her. "Yes it's me, im a doctor and the doctor in charge of Nick's case" Katie replied. "he is in a come right now but is in stable condition, he should wake up within 48 hours" Katie added. "We need to call his parent's" Kevin said. "ok you can" Katie said. "and his wife" AJ added. "Wife huh" Katie asked. "he married the girl he cheated on you with Katie im so sorry" Kevin said.
"Mommy" the little girl yelled and ran to her mother when she saw her standing there in the hospital waiting room talking some people. She ran up to her mother and clung to her mother's leg. "Hi sweetie" Katie replied picking up her daughter. The little girl looked around the 4 four people other people then buried her face in her mother's shoulder. The little girl looked exactly like Nick. Blonde hair and bright blue eyes. "Is she..."AJ, Brian, Howie and Kevin asked. "guys this is my daughter Hayley. And yes Nick is her father' Katie explained. They were shocked and all of their jaws dropped to the floor. "Close your mouths, this is a hospital, who knows what you might catch" Katie instructed. They did as they were asked.. Just then a man and woman came up to Katie, followed by a younger woman. "We're Nick Carter's parents' Nick's father Bob said. "how is he" Jane asked. They looked as if they had been crying. "And this is Maria, Nick's wife" Jane said introducing the young woman standing next to her. "Ok im Dr. Preston, Im in charge of Nick's case, follow me and I'll explain" Katie stated. Katie handed her daughter to one of the nurses then took the 3 back into her office. She explained to the 3 what was wrong with Nick. Katie was still hurt by what Nick did to her, and felt even worse since Nick's wife was there. Deep down in her heart she still loved Nick and wanted to be with him. The guys explained to her that they have been married for 2 months and it was a very private ceremony. No media knew about it. And they still didn't know. "Can we seem him" Jane asked. "yes Mrs. Carter you can. He is still in a coma and since he is in Intensive care only 1 person is allowed in at a time and only for 20 minutes at a time" Katie said. She took them up to the intensive care unit. Jane walked into her son's room and gasped. There lying on her bed was her son, in a coma, he was on a respirator to breath for him, a couple of IV's in his arms and hooked up to a bunch of different monitors.
Sometime around 1 in the morning. Katie went into check on him. She wanted to stay and check on him herself, not have some medical student do it. She still loved him...a lot. As she was checking the machines. Nick woke up. He looked around the room frightened. He went to say something but couldn't. "Nick, your in a hospital you had an accident at a concert. You just woke up from your coma" she explained. "You can't talk cause you are on a respirator. If you want to say something write it down" she added handing him a legal size pap and a marker. He wrote something down on it then handed it back to her. "Katie??" It read. "Yes Nick it's me" Katie said not making eye contact with him and gave him back the pad. "I'm going to get your parents and y..your..w-wife" Katie stuttered and walked out. She told Nick's parents that he was awake and they could see him. Nick's wife was no where to be found.
A week later Nick was released from the hospital. He wanted to pay Katie a visit before he left town, so he found out where she lived from 1 of the nurses and picked up a dozen roses and candy for her. "Nick what are you doing here' Katie asked and let Nick into her apartment. "Thank you. Thank you for saving my life" Nick said and handed her the flowers and candy. "I was just doing my job" Katie replied and took the flowers into the kitchen, to put them in a vase. "Nick, there is something I need to tell you" Katie said and walked back out into the living room, where Nick was sitting on the couch. "What" Nick asked. "Nick, you know my daughter Hayley" Katie said. "Yeah" "You are her father" Katie said. Nick didn't say anything. "Nick im sorry, so sorry I didn't tell you" Katie said and her eyes started to tear up since Nick wasn't say anything. "I thought so, she looks so much like me" Nick finally said. "how old is she" "she'll be 2 on December 25th" Katie replied. "I'd like to be a part of her life. Can I?" Nick asked. "I'd like that" Katie replied. "can I see her' "If your quiet Nick, she's sleeping' Katie said and stood up with Nick following her and walked in a bedroom. In the crib was Hayley sound asleep and under her arm was a teddy bear, that looked very worn out. "She looks so much like me, it's amazing" Nick whispered. "Yeah she does' Katie whispered back. They walked back out into the living room and sat down and started talking. After about a couple of hours of talking, Nick leaned over and kissed Katie. "Nick, what are you doing" Katie asked shocked but kinda happy that he kissed her. "Kissing you, don't you like it" Nick whispered and kissed her again. "Nick your married, I....I can't be the 1 to cause a breakup" Katie whispered. "Forget her, she's cheated on me, when I was in the hospital. She won't find out, she went out to LA today" Nick whispered and laid her down on her back and kissed her. "Please Katie lemme stay here and make love to you tonight" Nick asked her looking into her eyes. "Ok Nick" Katie said simply. Nick grinned and kissed her, he then picked her up and carried her to her bedroom and laid her down on the bed. Once their clothes were on the floor, Nick gave her a passion filled night that she would never forget. The next morning Nick woke up with Katie. He was thinking how right that felt....her being in his arms and waking up like that.
A few days later Orlando~~~. "Maria I want a divorce" Nick yelled. "why baby, don't you love, me. You know that, that kid is really not your daughter and she is lying' Maria replied and went to kiss him but he pushed her away. "she is my daughter and I know that. Her name is Hayley. Since you won't let me see her, I want a divorce. I know you cheated on me in while I was in the hospital, and that you are using me for my fame and money. I don't appreciate that!!' Nick yelled. "but" Maria interjected. "Maria, I want a divorce so I can see my daughter and fall back in love with the person who loves me for me, not for my fame and money!!!!!!!!!" Nick yelled. He then pulled out some papers. "sign them and we are divorced" Nick said through clentched teeth. "No" Maria replied stubbornly. "Sign them" Nick demanded. "No!" Maria yelled. "Sigh them or else!!!" Nick demanded with a shout. "What do I get out of this" Maria asked in a snotty tone of voice. "You get this house, and the Mercedes and 2,500 dollars if you sign them. and I will get the chance to spend the rest of my life with my daughter and the love of my life!" Nick stated. Maria grabbed the papers from his hand and ripped them up and threw them in the garbage. "That's it, I want you out of my house now!" Nick yelled. "but Nicky" Maria interjected. "No but Nicky's, don't ever call me that again, go pack and get out before I call the cops!!" Nick yelled. By now Nick was really really pissed off. Maria went upstairs to go pack and Nick went to take a walk and wound up at Brian's which was 10 miles away. "Nick are you alright' Brian asked as he let a sweaty Nick into his house. "I told Maria I wanted a divorce and handed her the papers, we had a fight and she ripped them up and threw them away" Nick said. "oh im sorry, you really love Katie don't you" Nick asked. "very much, I was a fool to cheat on her" Nick replied. "Brian, Nick I think you better come in here and see this' Michele Brian's fiancee said. They walked into the living and on the TV was MTV. "I'm John Norris with MTV news. Reports say that Nick Carter of the pop super group the Backstreet Boys has filed for divorce from his wife of only 6 months Maria because she will not let him see his 16 month old daughter that he found out about a about a month ago and that she is just using him because he is Nick Carter. His daughter's name has not be released because of privacy matters for both him and the mother of the child" "dammit it! Why can't I have my privacy" Nick yelled.
Christmas of that year~~~"Nick what are you doing here' Katie asked and let Nick into her apartment. "I wanted to see my daughter's 2nd birthday and wish her a merry Christmas. I also wanted to see you too Katie' Nick said and kissed her cheek then walked into the living room. Hayley was sitting on the ground playing with a gigantic Minnie Mouse that AJ had gotten for her. "Dada" she yelled when she saw him and ran up to him. "hi sweetheart" he said and picked her up. "And Merry Christmas and happy Birthday" He said and put her down.
That Night~~~~"She finally asleep" Nick asked as Katie walked back out into the living room. "Yeah, she was exhausted but didn't want this day to end, but she finally couldn't fight it anymore and went to sleep" Katie replied and sat down next to him on the couch. Thats when she noticed the setting in the room changed. The lights were out in the room except for the Christmas tree lights and a few candles that were light around the room. Nick had cleaned up while Katie was giving Hayley a bath and putting her to bed. "Nick you didn't have to clean up but it was sweet of you to" Katie said. "it's ok I gave her most of her toys, so at least I could have done was clean up the boxers and wrapping paper" Nick said. Katie yawned. It was now 10 o'clock at night and she had been up since 6 am taking care of a 2 year old. "Come here" Nick said gently and the moved so that Katie was resting her back on Nick's chest and Nick was resting his back on the side of the couch. They just stayed like that for a while. They were happy being like that"I'm finally divorced, have been since Halloween" Nick informed her. Katie nodded. "I like being like this' he added. "Me too" she replied. Nick moved off of the couch, and Katie sat up. Nick kneeled down infront of the couch on 1 knee. He began singing "It's True" to her.

Katie I love you, will you marry me" Nick asked opening the box to reveal an engagement ring that had a diamond in the shape of a heart. "I...I..." Katie started.
