Missing You

Melissa was staring out the window of her bedroom in the New York City apartment that she and Meg shared. It had been one week since they had left Cancun. One horrible, unbearable week without Nick, she thought as she looked sadly out the window. It was a horrible gloomy day. The rain was pouring down in cold wet sheets. It seemed to symbolize her mood. Tomorrow was the big day.

Tomorrow was the day of the operation and she really felt depressed that on what could be her last day alive the weather was this bad. It felt like a bad omen to what laid ahead.

Just then Meg entered her room interrupting her thoughts. "Hey c'mon. Stop moping around. If you think you only have 1 more day left then why don't you do something fun?"

Melissa just shrugged. The whole week had passed by incredibly slowly and painfully. one of the reasons was probably that she missed Nick. She had wrote him a letter almost everyday this week but so far he hadn't wrote her back. She had tried calling him but everytime she called he wasn't home. It had started to make her feel like everything he ever told her was b.s. Maybe he was only using her to get over Erin.

"What's the matter? I can tell something else is bothering you besides the operation," Meg asked.

Melissa was silent for a moment but after a while managed to say, "It's Nick."

"What about him?"

"I haven't heard from him since we said goodbye at the airport. I thought he really cared about me but how come he's never home or never calls me or writes?"

"Maybe he did write. Maybe it will come in tomorrow's mail," Meg suggested.

"Tomorrow may be to late though! Did AJ say anything when you talked to him?"

"Nope, but it wasn't like we were so desperate for conversation that we wound up talking about you and Nick."

"I bet he got back with Erin and he's been too busy seeing her."

"I'm positive thats not true. He's probably just been busy. Look, how about you cheer up and we can go shopping?"

"It's to rainy to go out," Melissa complained.

"It's never to rainy to shop. You're coming whether you like it or not."

Melissa finally pulled herself away from the window. It looked like Meg was going to get her way once again.

When they returned a few hours later Melissa was soaked from the rain. They couldn't find a cab so they had wound up walking in the pouring rain. Now every single inch of her body was freezing from the cold rain and she felt like her clothes were stuck to her. All she wanted to do was get inside change, and sit on the couch with a cup of hot chocolate and a blazing fire.

As he and Meg approached the door Melissa reached for the knob realizing that it was unlocked. "That's funny I could have sworn I locked the door before I left."

"Are you sure? Maybe you just forgot," Meg told her.

"I doubt it. I hope no one's inside. I'd be so scared if we were robbed."

"Calm down Mel. I'm sure everything's fine. You probably just forgot to lock it like I said. Chill out!"

"OK maybe you are right," Melissa admitted. As she stepped inside she couldn't help feeling that something strange was going on.

She turned her back to set down her packages on the floor and then all of a sudden felt a pair of strong arms wrap around her that definitely wasn't Meg. Maybe they really had been robbed and the now the thief was going to kidnap her and murder her.

She let out an ear piercing scream hoping to scare off her attacker and alert Meg to call the police. "Please, don't hurt me! I have nothing that you'd want on me! Just let me go!" she begged and screamed again, desperately trying to free herself.

"Hey Babydoll, calm down! I'm sorry if I scared you. I didn't mean to," she heard a very familiar voice say. No, it couldn't be! But as she turned around she realized it was true. There was Nick standing right in front of her and her sister and AJ were standing a little off to the side with their arms wrapped around each other and laughing at her, who probably had looked totally stupid just then.

She didn't know what to say. She was just so astonished to see Nick she couldn't even speak. Finally she asked, "How did you get here?" as she wrapped her arms around him giving him a huge hug.

"A plane," he answered simply.

"No shit Sherlock! Of course you took a plane. I want to know how you planned this."

"Well, I saw how depressed you were looking so last time I talked to AJ I asked if he thought him and Nick could come here for a visit before your operation," Meg explained.

"How come you didn't call me or write me?" she asked Nick, slightly angry.

"Because I was afraid that if I talked to you, I'd blurt out that I was visiting and I wanted to surprise you," he explained.

"Well, you certainly did suprise me! What the fuck was that all about, coming up behind me like that? You scared the shit out of me!"

"Well, I heard you telling Meg about how you thought someone had broken in so I decided to try to scare you. I never knew that you would take it so seriously. It was only a little prank. Are you mad?"

"How could I stay mad at you?"

"You can't," he told her with a laugh.

"OMG! I can't believe you guys came up here to see us on such short notice!"

"Well, I told you at the airport that I was going to see you again."

Melissa turned sad for a moment. "Yea, but the question is will this be the last time you see me?"

"Of course not," Nick tried to reassure her. "Hey, cheer up! You're supposed to be happy that I'm here, not turn all sad on me," he told her as he tilted her chin up.

"Yea, I guess so."

"So show me where I can put all my crap."

"I guess in my room. Follow me," she told him as she lead him towards her room.

Meg watched them disappear into Melissa's room and then laughed a little. "Why do I have the feeling they might be in there for a while?"

AJ laughed. "Oh good. I thought I was the only one with that feeling."

"Yea. Well, I'm happy for her. anyway I really shouldn't be talking," she said trying to make a joke. "She deserves to do whatever as long as it makes her happy because hey yo never know," she continued trying not to cry.

"Hey! Calm down! Like I just heard Nick tell your sister you're supposed to be happy that we're here, not sit around crying."

"I guess your right. So would you like to see my room?" Meg asked doing almost a complete 180 in her mood.

"That sounds very, very interesting," he told her as he followed her towards her room.
