Chapter 1

In a San Francisco office building, on the 14th floor, is a very busy office. The office is a management firm called, “The Firm”. The Firm handles clients like Blink 182, Eminem, and others not quite as famous as them.

The executive vice president of The Firm is a young woman of the age of 21 named Christin Casey. Now Christin is young but has worked very hard to get where she is. Having graduated high school at 16, she went straight into college, where she majored in business. She was 5ft 6in tall, weighed 125 pounds, had shoulder length, dark brown hair, and the deepest brown eyes. When she wasn’t working she like to go to the clubs or just party. Everyone that worked there liked her a lot. She was very nice, but if you got on her bad side or was a new employee, she could be a bitch. No one knew Christin though like her best friend, Amanda, did.

Amanda Ashford was a 21 year old part time worker at The Firm. She had been Christin best friend since they were five. That’s how Amanda had gotten her job was though Christin’s connections. She only worked part time because she attended college classes at a local community college. Amanda was also majoring in business. Her and Christin were a lot alike but also very different. Amanda was 5ft 4ins,115 lbs., had blonde hair and hazel eyes. But unlike Christin, she was shy. Amanda was a person that really didn’t express her feelings in words, where as Christin would tell you what’s on her mind. But both girls were very happy with lives as single females.

One day, Christin was at her desk that was cluttered with papers, contacts, appointment books and four pictures…One of her and Amanda when they were seven, a more recent one. Another of her and her father and a picture of just her mom. Her mom had died giving birth to her, leaving her father to raise her…her phone rang saying they were sending a new employee over. They would fax the information over to her.

“Thank You.” Christin hung up the phone.

A few minutes later, she had a fax in her hand.

She read, “Alexander James McLean. 22…Great. Just perfect. Some young person who I’ll have to train, then he’ll decide he isn’t ready for the responsibility and quit.”

Christin walked out of her office to be greeted by a guy.

He quickly walked up to her and said, “Ms. Casey?”

Christin replied, “Yeah. I guess you are Mr. McLean. Alexander McLean,” in the most I-Am-Too-Busy-So-Pay-Attention tone she could manage.

Alex, who didn’t know why this woman was being like this said, “That’s me, call me Alex. I am the new pa-”

“Part-Time worker. Yes, I know.” She finished for him. “so pay attention, this is your job assignment. You will file papers, answer phones, run errands, and anything else I say to so. You will work from nine to noon at a flat wage of ten dollars an hour. Any questions ask Amanda. Amanda.” she waved her hand towards Amanda, “Can you come here?”

Amanda walked over the noticing the very good looking guy standing next to Christin. “What do you want?”

“This is Alex. He is a new part time worker. Show him around for me. I have a meeting with the guys of Blink-182 in 10 minutes and I have to finish preparing for it.”

“Ok, Alex. I’m Amanda Ashford.” Amanda held her hand. Alex quickly shook her hand.

“What’s her problem?” Alex asked while he nodded his head towards Christin’s office, which she had walked into as soon as Amanda had said Okay.

“She doesn’t have a problem. She is just really swamped with work today. Plus, having a new employee to break in doesn’t help her much.”

10 minutes later Alex and Amanda’s tour was wrapping up, when Amanda spotted Blink-182 going into Christin’s office. Even though Amanda had worked there a little over a year, she had yet to meet anyone famous. Even though she was shy, Amanda thought “What the heck. Let’s live on Christin’s philosophy. You may never see them again in your entire life, so whatever you do make them remember you.” She found the empty desk and pointed it out the Alex.

“That is your desk. Um, Alex, it was nice meeting you. I’m sure I will see you around, but right now I gotta go.” She said in a hurry.

“Um. Okay.” Alex said kind of confused. Here he was getting along great, well maybe not great, but he sure didn’t think he had done anything wrong.

“See you around.” Amanda muttered as she walked away.
