If there were a
recipe for success in the music business, it might go something like this two
parts talent, one part good looks, a dash of drive to be the best and a sprinkle
of good luck. Bake with years warm reception from fans and frost with hit radio
singles. In the case of Plus One, the
recipe simply reads as follows: Combine the talents of Nathan
Walters, Jason Perry, Gabe Combs, and Nathan
Cole with a group of amazing songs, a good measure of faith in God and a
passion to be positive role models for teens around the world. Ranging in age from
17 to 21, these young men came together through auditions and word-of-mouth
recommendations to form what is poised to be one of the biggest acts of the new
millennium.
Plus One is the latest act to come from the
celebrated musical mind of David Foster (Barbara Streissand, Celine Dion, Brandy)
who has recently signed the five young men to a recording contract with his 143
Records label, a joint venture with Atlantic Records. The five-man pop group joins
the ranks of artists such as Ireland’s multi-platinum selling sibling pop act
The Corrs and country sensation Kevin Sharp as one of only a handful of artists
handpicked by Foster to be a part of his first-ever label. The fourteen-time Grammy Award winner, who has
produced and/or written some of the biggest hits of the 80’s and 90’s,
including Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart,” Whitney Houston’s “I Will
Always Love You,” All-4-One’s “I Swear” and Celine Dion’s “Because You
Loved Me,” established 143 Records in 1995. Foster will also take the reigns as
producer for several cuts on the debut from Plus One, scheduled for a May 2000
release from Atlantic/143 Records.
Drawing from some
of the top songwriters in Los Angeles and Nashville, as well as several of the
group members themselves, the group’s debut will shine with the production
talents of several industry notables, including Eric Foster Davis (Britney Spears,
Backstreet Boys) and Buster and Shivani (God’s Property, The prince of Egypt
soundtrack). Recent performances, including one at a Teen Magazie/Bloomingdale’s
model search and fashion show performance, and an L.A. showcase for producers and
songwriters, have left both industry and fans waiting anxiously for the first
release from this talented quintet. Nathan
W., Jason, Gabe, Jeremy and Nathan C. have come together from different walks of
life and corners of the U.S. under on vision—creating great pop music with a
positive perspective. From Lakeland, FL, where 21-year-old Nathan W. grew up,
influenced by a wide range of musicians (from Michael W. Smith to Michael
Jackson); to the heartland of Madison, IN, where 17-year-old Jason Perry learned
to play the drums and performed with the band at his church; to the west coast,
where 18-year-old Nathan C. grew up listening to Grammy Award winner Steven Curtis
Chapman and honing his own songwriting skills, and aspiring songwriter 19-year-old
Gabe grew up just down the coast—this team of young men is full of passion for
music and for life. Nineteen-year-old
Jeremy, who grew up in Springfield, MO, and left Southwest Missouri State College
to join Plus One, rounds out the group. He describes how the group wants to affect
their generation with the songs that they sing. “If you listen more that you
speak, you can get a lot done sometimes. The main thing is that you don’t have
to preach—just show love, acceptance and tolerance. Plus One is a constant
