Chapter Four

She knew it was inevitable. Of course she couldn’t avoid him forever, but she could sure as hell try. Getting the door open, her first impulse was to shut it again. Unfortunately, he was able to stop her from doing so.

"What do you want Kevin?" Jade asked impatiently.

"We need to talk," he replied, stepping past her into Brian’s living room.

"About what Kevin? Why did you just up and decide that we need to talk now?" She was growing angry. "I think we’ve talked enough. At least, I have."

Kevin took a minute to look Jade over. He was very surprised at the fact that she was as grown as she was. He had watched her grow up and now, she was a woman, something Kevin had a hard time accepting. Even standing there in nothing but a T-shirt, she was a very beautiful woman.

"Kevin, if you’re gonna talk, I suggest you do it now, otherwise stop wasting my time."

"Why the hell did you tell me what you did?" he was abrupt with his question.

He immediately saw the pain in Jade’s eyes, but she quickly turned angry. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Her voice rose.

Even though he knew he would end up hurting her, and probably even make her hate him, he continued. "Nothing Jade. But think you could at least explain what that was about. Huh? ANSWER ME!"

Jade flinched as he began to shout. "Don’t you dare yell at me," her voice was now even and flat.

"I’ll do whatever the hell I want. You did," said taking a step toward her.

"Yeah, I did, and now I realize I must have been pretty damn stoned." She was staring coldly into his eyes. "You’re an asshole, Kevin," she shouted.

"This is your fault, Jade. You can only blame yourself for the shit going on now," he smirked.

"Get out," she pointed toward the door. "Get the fuck out right now!"

"Why should I?" he started to protest.

"Look Kevin," he was interrupted. "I suggest you listen to her and get the hell out of this house."

Jade and Kevin both turned to find Nick staring angrily. He still had tiny droplets of water everywhere and he was clad only in boxers.

"I know this is none of my business, but-"

"Damn straight it’s not," Kevin turned to face him completely.

"But this isn’t your house and you aren’t gonna yell at her and treat her like shit," Nick finished, angry that he had been interrupted. He moved in between Kevin and Jade and pointed to the door. "When you think you can talk to her like she’s a person, you can. Until then, get out!"

**LATER: KEVIN’S HOUSE**

"Mama, I just don’t know what to do." Kevin had decided the best advice he could get would come from someone who knew what they were talking about.

"Darlin’ what happened exactly?" Ann Richardson waited to listen for her son to pour his heart out.

Alexia walked in but decided to stay quiet while Kevin was on the telephone. She sat down and listened as Kevin let out a frustrated sigh.

"She told me she loves me." Lexi froze as she listened, intently now, to Kevin’s end of the conversation.

She knew only one person who would do that. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. That bitch is after my Kevvy. I cannot let her get him. I should’ve known not to trust her.

Kevin continued on for a while, explaining everything, including what he had told her earlier.

Alexia found herself smiling as she listened to the hurtful things Kevin had said to Jade. Although she could detect a hint of guilt in his voice, she was pleased.

As the conversation came to an end, Kevin felt worse. Suddenly two hands slid down the front of his chest. "Not now, Lex."

"But Kevin, I thought you liked it when I did this." She slid her hands inside his shirt and raked her long nails down his chest.

Kevin threw her hands away and turned to face her. "Dammit Alexia I said NOT NOW!"

Alexia stepped back, glaring at him. She knew this was a serious issue on his mind when he wouldn’t give in to her advances. I have to do something about that bitch.

"Look, I’m going for a drive." He grabbed his keys and made his way to the front door. Before going he said, "I don’t know when I’ll be back, so don’t sit and wait."
