Riding in the back seat of the van wasn’t very comfortable. There were no seats so they had to sit on the floorboard of the van. With every bounce and curve everyone struggled to stay upright. The windows were covered so they couldn’t see out, but it wouldn’t have done any good if they weren’t covered because it was pitch black outside. They couldn’t see up front either because it was blocked off like in a police car. It smelled musty and since they were closed in, it was a little difficult breathing. Heather was lying in A.J’s lap and was crying softly, and A.J was trying to comfort her. “I hope that Kevin and Gina get to safety and aren’t caught.” Liz said quietly. As they bumped along the road she thought about how wonderful the night had been up until now. Just an hour ago she had been in the pool having the time of her life and now she was in the back of this van being taken to an unknown place. “What if these men were planning to kill them?” Liz thought to herself as chills ran down her spine. The van came to a sudden stop and Liz put her hand out in front of her so she wouldn’t fall over. As she did that her hand ran across something very sharp. Quietly she cried out in pain and pulled her hand back. Squinting in the dim light she tried to see what had cut her. A trickle of blood ran down her wrist and made her shudder. No one heard her cry out except Nick, who glanced over at her and noticed she was bleeding. Quickly he took her hand and looked at the cut. “Does anyone have anything to stop this bleeding?” He asked. Alarmed everyone looked over at him to see what he was talking about. Heather reached into her pocket and pulled out a Kleenex and handed it to Nick. “Are you okay?” She asked Liz. “I’m fine,” Liz replied trying to assure Heather. “ I just hit my hand on something sharp.” Heather still looked worried though so Liz continued. “It’s nothing really. Just a little cut, that’s all.” Heather nodded and laid back down and closed her eyes. A.J. sat there and watched her and thought about what was happening. It seemed so unreal. But it was real.
Not knowing where they were going was the worst part though. It was all like a nightmare, first the men almost run into them and now there were in the back of their van. They were all nervous and all they thought about was what was going to happen to them. Meanwhile Kevin and Gina were hiding in another patch of bushes trying to stay hidden from their pursuers. They sat there without moving and prayed that they would not be seen. They were the others only hope now. Gina was tying to stay calm but when that guy had started driving away with the others in it, she had to shut her eyes. Kevin put his arm around in case she was even thinking about standing up at that moment. If she did their hiding spot would be found and they would end up where the others were heading. Where ever that was. Kevin heard one of the men say something and looked up. He hadn’t been paying any attention to what was going on around him; he had been too busy thinking about what had just happened. That was all anyone was thinking about right now. He couldn’t see either of the men so he hunched back down in to their hiding place. Gina looked at him with a panic stricken face, and he looked puzzled. They he realized what she was worried about. One of the men had found some footprint. It would probably be only a matter of minuets before he found out where they were hiding. He pulled Gina closer and began to whisper something into her ear. Running was their only chance now, but they had to wait until the right moment.
Joe, who was driving suddenly stopped again and then opened a small door between the front and back of the van and said. “Guess what? We’re almost there! Just a few more miles and we’ll be there. I know you’re so excited!” He started laughing and then he shut the door again with a loud bang. Howie, who was right next to the door had been up to look out and see what was outside. “I couldn’t see much.” He said whispering. “But we were on some road that wasn’t used very often.” A.J. chuckled. “I think we could figure that out by just sitting here.” Not 2 seconds after he said that they hit a huge bump and went flying all over the van. Joe opened the door again and said. “Oh, sorry about that! I didn’t mean to hit that pothole. Hope no one’s hurt!” Howie looked furious and was just about to slam the door himself but Joe did it first. Heather and Liz huddled together and started talking quietly about what was going on. Nick, A.J, and Howie were also talking about what they would do once they got there. They didn’t know what was going to happen there so they weren’t sure whether it would be better to run or stay put. A.J. looked over at the door to make sure it wasn’t open and then said. “If we run then there might be more guards and it would be hard to outrun them. And we now that this Joe guy can run pretty fast since he caught us back at our van.” Nick and Howie nodded.
Kevin and Gina had made their plans and were waiting for the right moment to run when suddenly they heard a twig snap. Gina’s looked up and was horrified to see one of the men standing up looking straight at them. Kevin slowly turned and the man smile. “Well, well, well. Look what we have here.” Kevin looked back at Gina and nodded, now they would run. If it wasn’t too late.
