Chapter 6

<<<<< *~* Mandy’s House *~* >>>>>
Kevin stared up at Mandy’s house and sighed. It was now or never. For the longest time he had not wanted to admit his feelings for Mandy. But he didn’t want to hide them anymore. It wasn’t fair to him and it wasn’t fair to Mandy. She had a right to know everything.
He got out of the car and went up to her house. He let in a deep breath. He rang the doorbell and waited. He waited for his dreams; for everything he needed and desired.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Mandy came to the door and flung it open. Her breath caught in her throat as she saw Kevin standing there with a gentle smile on his face.
“Hi. Can I talk to you…about earlier?” Kevin asked. “Yeah, of course,” Mandy said, stepping aside, letting Kevin in. They walked into the kitchen and Mandy got the two of them some tea. Mandy knew Kevin liked to drink a lot of tea because of his voice.,BR>
“So, what’s up?” Mandy asked him. “Well, about earlier. I’m really sorry. The song is about you. I don’t know why I said that it wasn’t,” Kevin told her. “Well, I do, Kevin. You were always the selfish one. You were only thinking of yourself. You didn’t care that you were hurting me in the meantime,” Mandy said, her voice rising. But she wasn’t yelling. Mandy rarely yelled. “Mands, listen to me. I wasn’t being selfish. I just didn’t want to get hurt again,” Kevin told her. “Umm, hi. Did you listen to what you just said?” Mandy asked. “Stop turning everything on me. You’re that one that can’t let go of what we had,” Kevin told her, his voice now rising as well.
Mandy sat back in her chair. She looked away as the tears filled her eyes. “I’m sorry,” Kevin said, softening his voice. Mandy put her hand up. “Save it. I couldn’t let go because I really loved you. I still do because when you really love someone, Kevin, you can’t just say goodbye like you didn’t share anything,” Mandy said, allowing a few tears to fall. “Well, I’m sorry, Mands, but that’s you,” Kevin told her.
Mandy stared down at the floor, continuing to sob quietly. “Hey, hey, shh. Come on, I can’t see you cry,” Kevin told her, getting out of his chair and hugging her. Mandy’s head rested on his chest as her arms encircled his waist. She continued to cry. Kevin put two fingers under her chin, lifting her face up.
He slowly brought his lips to hers, giving her a soft kiss. After the kiss, Mandy looked up at him.

Chapter 7

“Kevin, what’re you thinking because you’ve got me confused,” Mandy told him. “I never stopped loving you. Ask any one of the guys. I never forgot about you. I wrote that song, hoping that you would see it and know just how much my heart has ached for you since we said goodbye,” Kevin told her. Mandy didn’t know what to say. “I love you,” Kevin said. He wasn’t sure why he said it but he felt like he had to. He knew it was right. Not so much that it was the right thing to say but that it was something that he knew was right in his heart. It was something he had wanted to say to her since they broke up.
“No, don’t say that. Don’t think you can just come back into my life like that. Kevin, I want to be with you. But we need to start over. We need to go on a first date and get to know each other again,” Mandy told him. “I understand,” Kevin told her. “Promise me something. Promise me that you’ll trust me,” Mandy told him. “Mandy, I promise to trust you. Will you trust me?” Kevin asked. “Kevin, I promise to trust you,” Mandy told him. “But still, this is…I don’t know. I don’t know if this is the right thing to do. I don’t know if we can just stop everything and get back together again. I want to, believe me, but…I don’t know,” Mandy said. “I know what you’re thinking. You don’t want to get hurt again. And neither do I. But Amanda, we gotta do this just because we need to do this. We need to be in love. I don’t mean that the way it sounds. It’s not that I want to be in love. It’s that I don’t want to deny myself of you anymore. I need to be with you and I need you in my life. We have to take a chance,” Kevin told her. Mandy looked away. Kevin was the only person who ever called her Amanda anymore and to hear him say that just struck something in her heart. It was like little butterflies. The kind you get when you’re excited or nervous about something.
“Can we start over?” Kevin asked. Mandy nodded her head. “Manda, will you go out with me tomorrow night?” Kevin asked. “I’d love to,” Mandy said. Although for maybe two seconds that night, Mandy would have said no, something came over her. Kevin’s little speech had an impact on her and she knew he was right for the most part. They needed to just try it out, one more time.
After talking for a while, Kevin decided he should get going. “Come on, I’ll walk you to the door,” Mandy told him. At the door, they said their goodbyes and Kevin kissed her cheek.
<<<<< *~* The Next Day *~* >>>>>
Kevin woke up and called AJ. “AJ, when do we go on tour again?” Kevin asked. “Two weeks, why?” AJ asked. “Me and Mandy talked last night and got everything out in the open. We’re gonna start over, which means I have two weeks to show her that I’m not a jerk,” Kevin explained. “She loves you, man. Be careful with her heart. It’s fragile,” AJ warned. “Don’t worry,” Kevin told him.
<<<<< *~* That Night *~* >>>>>
Kevin went into the restaurant, slowly scanning the area for Mandy. They had agreed to meet at the restaurant just to save time. He didn’t see her. He scanned the room again and his eyes rested on her. Her reddish-blonde hair shimmered in the romantically lit room. Her green eyes sparkled from across the room. Kevin was lost in her eyes.
Slowly, he made his way over to her. He stayed standing when he came to the table. “Hi Mandy,” Kevin said, softly. “Hi Kevin. How are you?” Mandy asked. “I’m good,” Kevin told her. “Please, sit down,” Mandy told him. Kevin sat down in the chair across from her and stared into her eyes, looking into them deeply.
“Kevin, stop. You’re making me blush,” Mandy said, slightly looking away. “Sorry,” Kevin said, shyly. “No, no, it’s ok!” Mandy told him. She reached across the table and took his hand.
<<<<< *~* After Dinner *~* >>>>>
“So, Mands, do you wanna go do something still?” Kevin asked. Dinner had gone really well and they both had good feelings about starting the relationship over again. “Yeah sure,” Mandy told him. “Ok, I know just where we should go,” Kevin told her.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Soon after, they arrived at a place that was familiar to both of them. It was a small little pond in the middle of the woods in a local park. “Oh Kevin,” Mandy said when she realized where they were. “I thought you would like to come here,” Kevin told her. “Yeah. Even in the last few months I used to come here all the time. It’s sort of the place that would always come me down no matter what,” Mandy told him. “Yeah, I know what you mean. I saw you here a few nights but I was across the pond, on the other side,” Kevin said. “Oh, and you never said hello,” Mandy said, jokingly. “Well, I wanted to but I didn’t want to yell across the pond,” Kevin said. “That’s so weird, cause I never saw you here,” Mandy told him. “Well, you were always really deep in thought,” Kevin said. “Yeah, that’s usually why I would come here, because something was bothering me,” Mandy told him. Kevin nodded.
He took her hand and they began to walk over to a big rock that stuck out into the water. They sat down next to each other, watching the water glide past them. Kevin looked over at her, staring at her as she looked out at the water. “What?” Mandy asked, knowing that Kevin was looking at her. “Nothing,” Kevin said. Mandy turned towards him. “Come here,” Mandy said. Kevin inched closer. Mandy rolled her eyes. Kevin hadn’t gotten her little hint. She inched closer to him and kissed him.
After they pulled away, Kevin wrapped his arms securely around her, holding her to his body. “Kevin, I want to say I’m sorry for…” Mandy started. “No, shh. Don’t worry about anything that happened before. It’s behind us now,” Kevin interrupted her, whispering in her ear.

<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Mandy got home and picked up her phone. She dialed AJ’s number quickly; waiting impatiently as it rang. “Hello?” Allison asked. “Oh hey Allison, it’s Mandy. Is AJ there?” Mandy asked. “Yeah, how’d the date go?” Allison asked. “Really good,” Mandy told her. “That’s awesome, Manda. Hold on a sec,” Allison said, handing AJ the phone.
“Hey Manda Bear. How are ya?” AJ asked her. “I’m good, AJ. How’re you?” Mandy asked. “Good, good. How was the date?” AJ asked. Mandy sighed. “That good, huh?” AJ asked. “Oh, AJ. It was great. I’ve missed him so much and now it’s like everything is how I’ve wanted it to be for so long,” Mandy told him. “Mandy, I’m so happy for you guys. And I know he wants this as much as you do,” AJ told her. “Oh really, and how do you know that?” Mandy asked. “Oh, I have my sources, babe,” AJ told her.
After talking for a little longer, AJ decided to get off the phone so he could spend some time with Allison.
Soon after, the phone was ringing at Mandy’s house.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
“Hello?” Mandy asked. “Hey girlie, it’s Marissa. What’s up?” Marissa asked. “Nothing much. I just got home from my date with Kevin,” Mandy told her. “Oh really. How’d it go?” Marissa asked. Mandy went through the date again. “That’s so awesome,” Marissa told her. “So, what’d you and Brian do tonight?” Mandy asked. “We went to a nice dinner. Brian is so sweet. He had a rose for me when we went out. I mean, it’s like we just started going out, you know? But it’s been a pretty long time and he’s still so sweet,” Marissa told her. “Yeah, B-rok’s definitely a romantic,” Mandy told her. “Yeah, Kevin’s not so bad either,” Marissa said. “Yeah,” Mandy said, sighing.
After talking for about another half an hour, Marissa and Mandy decided that everyone should get together tomorrow for a little party. So, Marissa was going to call everyone and have a little get together at her and Brian’s apartment.
<<<<< *~* The Next Night *~* >>>>>
Marissa had called everybody and everything was set. There was going to be a get together at her and Brian’s place. Everything was ready and now they were just waiting for everyone to arrive.
“Marissa, babe, did you tell AJ to bring the movies?” Brian asked, coming into the bedroom that they shared. “Yeah, Bri, everything has been taken care of,” Marissa told him, walking over towards him after touching up her make-up. “You look wonderful,” Brian told her. “Thanks. You look very nice yourself,” Marissa told him. “Me?” Brian said, looking down at his jeans and t-shirt. “Yeah, you,” Marissa said. They then heard the doorbell and went to the door to answer it.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
About two hours later everyone was watching a movie called “Before Sunrise”. It was a romantic drama. All the couples were secluded in the different pieces of furniture in the living room. Kevin and Mandy were on the couch; Allison and AJ were on the loveseat; Brian and Marissa were in the recliner; Nick and Claire were on the floor; and Howie and Casey were on the floor on the other side of the room from Nick and Claire.
Marissa nudged Brian. “What?” Brian whispered, taking his attention away from the movie. “Look,” Marissa said, not bothering to look at him. Brian followed her gaze across the room. “Aww, AJ, look,” Brian said, whispering to AJ. AJ looked over, and then nudged Allison. This went on until everyone was looking at Kevin and Mandy.
Mandy and Kevin had fallen asleep and Mandy had her head on Kevin’s chest, while Kevin’s arms were wrapped around her tightly. Marissa quietly got up from Brian’s lap and went to the drawer where the camera was. “What’re you doing?” Nick whispered. “Getting my camera,” Marissa told him. After digging her camera out, Marissa took a picture of the sleeping Mandy and Kevin.
Kevin and Mandy blinked a few times and then sat up. No one was paying any attention to the movie anymore. “What’s going on?” Mandy asked, confused. “You fell asleep on Kevvy-Kev and then he fell asleep and then Marissa took your picture,” Nick filled her in. “Thanks for the brief, Nick,” Kevin told him. “Hey, no problem,” Nick told him.
Mandy looked at Kevin after realizing everyone must have been watching them. Kevin gave her a lopsided smile, causing her to giggle a little. “Oh, so you think that’s so funny, huh? Well, I gotta calm you down,” Kevin said, moving closer to her and kissing her. “Aww, ain’t that cute,” AJ said. “Shut up, AJ,” Claire said, looking up at him. “Hey, he’s my boyfriend. Only I can tell him to shut up,” Allison said, seriously. “Umm, sorry,” Claire said, a little confused. Allison burst out laughing. “Oh, you are so annoying when you do stuff like that,” Claire said, grabbing a pillow off the couch and throwing it at her. “Oh, uh-uh,” Allison said, throwing the pillow at Nick. “You did not just hit my Nicky,” Claire said. The two looked at each other and then a pillow fight broke out.
Mandy and Kevin continued to make out during this until a pillow hit Kevin in the head. “Yo, who threw that?” Kevin asked, with the pillow in his hand. “Don’t tell,” Brian whispered. “Smart move, B-rok,” Kevin said, throwing the pillow at his cousin. “Hehe, yeah I know I’m smooth,” Brian said. Marissa started laughing. “And would you believe that? My girlfriend is laughing at me,” Brian said, tickling Marissa.
“What now?” Mandy asked. “I don’t know, but I’m awake and I wanna do something,” AJ said. “Yeah, me too,” Nick said. “Let’s go out,” Allison suggested. “Yeah, come on,” Howie said. “Yeah, yeah,” Marissa told everyone. “Ok, so everyone wanna go to a club?” AJ asked. “Yeah,” everyone chorused.

“You Gave Me Everything”
Chapter 9
By: Tricia Kuchler © 1999
About an hour and a half later, everyone was at the club, having a few drinks and dancing as well. Everyone was just a little intoxicated except for Brian, who was being the designated driver, but he didn’t really mind.
“Hey, come on Claire, let’s dance,” Nick said, dragging his girlfriend onto the dance floor. “Ok Nicky, let’s go,” Claire said. They began to dance rather closely and soon alongside them, AJ and Allison joined in.
Kevin looked over at Mandy. She giggled a little as she noticed him looking at her. Kevin moved over next to her and looked into her eyes. “Hey baby, having fun?” Kevin asked, slurring his words ever so slightly. “Uh-huh,” Mandy told him. Kevin leaned in and kissed her. The innocent kiss developed into something more. Kevin’s hands roamed under Mandy’s shirt, grabbing at the clasp of her bra. Mandy pulled away and giggled once again, but taking Kevin’s hand away from her shirt.
She then took her hand moved it to his stomach. Kevin smiled. They were both drunk and didn’t know what they were about to do. Or how it was going to affect anything.
“Come on, Kevin, I want you,” Mandy whispered, seductively in his ear. Kevin’s eyes lit up, as he became more excited. He grabbed Mandy’s hand and led her out of the club. “Come on, let’s go to my house,” Kevin told her. “Alright, let’s go,” Mandy said.
Soon they got to Kevin’s house, thanks to Kevin speeding the whole way home. At least they got home safely. “Here we are,” Kevin said as he leaned in and kissed Mandy. Mandy’s hands moved up to Kevin’s hair, pushing it back. “Wait here a second,” Kevin said, getting out of the car and rushing over to Mandy’s side.
He opened the door and began to kiss Mandy again. “Kevin, let’s go inside,” Mandy told him. Kevin picked her up and carried her into the house.
<<<<< *~* Back At the Club *~* >>>>>
“Where’d Kevin and Mandy go?” Marissa asked, noticing there were only eight of them. “I don’t know. The last time I saw them, they were making out,” Howie said. “Yeah, we saw them but we didn’t want to come over and bother them,” Casey said. “Well, they’re not here anymore. Did anyone see them leave?” AJ asked. Everyone shook his or her heads no. “Well, come on, let’s go check the parking lot,” Brian said, being the rational one.
Everyone followed Brian outside. “Kev’s car isn’t here,” Nick said. “No crap Nick,” Brian said. “We may have a problem,” Claire said. “Yeah a big one. I mean, everyone saw how they were drinking, right?” Allison asked. Everyone nodded. “What should we do?” AJ asked. “What can we do? We can’t go over there and walk in on them,” Marissa told them. “But hunny, we can’t let them mess their relationship up. They just got back together,” Brian said. “Ok, guys, come on. We can’t fight about this. They might not even be home,” Casey reasoned with them. “I don’t know though,” Brian said. “Look Bri, we have to just let them be. If they make a mistake, they make a mistake. We can’t go in there and be their parents,” Howie told him. “Fine, but I don’t want to hear any I told you so’s,” Brian said. “Come on, let’s just go home now,” Claire said.
<<<<< *~* The Next Morning *~* >>>>>
Mandy woke up and knew she wasn’t in her bed. She brought her hand to her head. “What?” she asked, confused. She tried to remember what happened last night but she couldn’t quite remember everything. She opened her eyes and looked around.
“Oh my god…” Mandy said. She sat up in bed, pulling the sheet up with her, covering her body. Kevin was lying next to her, sound asleep, naked as well. “What did we do?” Mandy thought. “I can’t believe this. He had to take advantage of me. I mean, god knows if he was drunk too. I know I was. Oh my god. What have I gotten myself into?” Mandy continued. She saw her clothes strewn on the floor and quickly picked them up, and changed.
She went downstairs and scribbled a note out to Kevin.
“Kevin,
Well, I don’t know if you are aware of what we did last night, but we had sex. I don’t remember it really, just pieces but it was a mistake. I think this whole thing might have been a mistake. I don’t know. I’m really confused. Call me later, if you want to…
Mandy”
Mandy left the note in Kevin’s bedroom, on the phone next to his bed. She took one last look at him and then left his house, taking a cab home.

Chapter 10

Mandy got home soon after, tears streaking her face. The cab driver, a man in his late fifties, gave her some reassuring smiles. She smiled back, but her mind drifted back to Kevin and the night they had shared.
She couldn’t believe that had happened and it worried her. She didn’t know if he would think differently of her, or how she would react when she saw him again. She picked up the phone and called the one person she could always talk to.
“Hello?” a voice asked.
“Hey Marissa, it’s Mandy,” Mandy said, on the verge of tears.
“Aww hun, what’s wrong?” Marissa asked.
Mandy went through the accounts of last night.
“Oh my god, what’re you going to do?” Marissa asked.
“Well, I don’t know. I mean, do you know if Kevin was drinking too?” Mandy asked.
“I’m not really sure. I mean, I had a few drinks so I don’t want to say yes or no,” Marissa told her.
“See, I don’t know either. And if he wasn’t drunk, then was he taking advantage of me? And really, either way, we shouldn’t have done that. Emotionally, I wasn’t ready and I don’t think Kevin was either,” Mandy said.
“Manda, just try not to think about it too much. I’m sure Kevin will figure out what happened and you guys’ll talk about it, you know?” Marissa asked.
“Yeah, thanks Marissa. I owe you one,” Mandy told her.
“Anytime. Good luck,” Marissa told her.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
A couple of hours later, Mandy’s phone rang.
“Hello?” Mandy asked.
“Hi, it’s me,” a hoarse voice said.
“Oh, hi Kevin,” Mandy told him.
“Can we talk?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah sure,” Mandy said.
“Ok, can I come over then?” Kevin asked.
“Yeah.”
“Ok, I’ll be there in ten minutes,” Kevin told her.
<<<<< *~* >>>>>
Minutes later, Kevin was at Mandy’s house. “So…” Mandy told him. “Manda, what we did last night. I know you think it was a mistake, but it wasn’t,” Kevin told her. “What?” Mandy asked, confused. Now anger was boiling up inside of her. “Well, I mean, I love you and you love me. We can’t go wrong making love if the love is real,” Kevin told her. Mandy shook her head. “But the time wasn’t right Kevin. I can’t believe you think what we did was okay. Neither of us even knew what we were doing,” Mandy said. Kevin looked away. “Right? Kevin you were drunk, weren’t you?” Mandy asked. “Yeah, I was. But the thing is, I don’t think we made any mistakes,” Kevin said, sadness in his voice.
“Kevin, could you stop thinking about yourself for about five seconds?” Mandy asked. Kevin looked at her. “Look, it might have been nice for you, but I don’t even remember all of it. I don’t want to remember something that means so much as something that I don’t have any recollections of,” Mandy told him. “Well, it was very special to me. And I wish you could appreciate what we shared. But you know what, that was always a little difficult for you to do,” Kevin said, coldly.
Mandy looked at him. She felt as if someone just slapped her across the face. “Excuse me? Kevin, don’t do me any favors. Get out,” Mandy told him. She was trying to keep the tears from falling. And she was being successful. For some reason, hiding her feelings wasn’t as hard as it usually was.
Kevin didn’t know what to do. He loved her and now he realized that he just screwed everything up, again. “Fine, but just remember that I didn’t break up with you this time,” Kevin told her. “I’m aware of that. We’re through,” Mandy said.
Kevin got up, and went to the door. He hesitated for a minute. He looked back at Mandy but she was staring at the wall and facing away from his direction. A single tear slid down his cheek. He turned back around and slammed the door behind him as he left.
Mandy lay on the couch and began to cry. Although she could hide her feelings from Kevin, she couldn’t hide from herself. She didn’t know why she broke up with the one man that she loves so much.
But how could someone she loves so much hurt her so many times?
