Falling Out Of Love
Faith: Chapter 6

Faith was extremely excited. There were just two more days until the dance; she could barely contain herself. Things seemed to be going good, and after the incident with Amy, she didn't seem to be having anymore problems, or so everyone thought.

She actually was having some difficulties, but she didn't want to worry anyone with them. Lately she had been getting home without her mom noticing, and at parties she made sure to steer away from Kim, who seemed to show up at every party Faith attended.

Faith knew that what she was doing was wrong, but she couldn't help it. It was a part of her, who she was, even if it was a part of her she didn't like. The only really horrible part was having to go to school the next with a hang over and pretend nothing was wrong.

When Faith returned from a party that night, she was surprised to see her mother sitting on the couch waiting for her. "Where have you been?" Emily inquired.

"At a party."

"Were you drinking?" Emily asked, even though she could smell the alcohol on Faith's breath.

"Of course not," Faith yawned, "I'm going to bed, ok?"

"Goodnight," her mother said, standing up and walking into the kitchen.

Faith new her mother was disappointed in her, but she was too tired to do anything about it, besides, what could she do about it? Her mother was always disappointed in her, or at least that's how it felt sometimes... most of the time... ok, all of the time.

***two days later***

It was the night of the big dance, and Faith had been able to stay sober for the past two days.

She stood in front of a mirror, surveying the dress her mother had spent hours slaving over. It was midnight blue and hung to her ankles, with a slit that reached just above her knee.

"You like it?" Emily asked.

"It's perfect," Faith whispered, Just like tonight is going to be, she thought. Faith could just picture Brian in his tux... picking her up in a limo, he had insisted upon it. She glanced at the clock, only twenty more minutes.

"Aren't you going to do your makeup?" her mother asked.

"I never even thought of that!" Faith admitted. She never wore make-up, and wasn't even sure if she owned any.

"Don't worry," Emily said, "I'll be right back."

Emily returned to the room carrying a cosmetics case. "Here you go," she said, handing it to Faith, "Do you need help putting it on?"

Faith smiled, "Thanks Mom, I think I can handle it."

Just then the doorbell rang, and Faith's mother hurried downstairs to answer it...
