Faith slammed her locker closed and was surprised to see Brian behind it.

"So you wanna talk about it?" Brian asked.

"About what?" she asked.

"It's no big deal."

"What's no big deal?" she asked, annoyed.

"I know what happened at the party," Brian said.

Faith got angry, "That's none of your business!"

"Don't worry about it," he said, "People make mistakes."

"I know," she said, still angry, then she got softer, "I know... and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to -- I mean, you know I didn't want that to happen. I'm trying to start off new... better, and then I had to go screw things up."

"It's ok," he said, "People make mistakes... that's how they learn, how they grow. And I'm sure your mom will be just as understanding & will support you, because at least you're making an effort."

Faith looked down, then smiled, "So do you have a date for the dance yet?"

"As a matter of fact, I do."

"Oh," Faith said, "What's her name?"

"Faith," Brian said, then turned and started to walk as the bell rang. He couldn't see Faith anymore, but he could feel her staring at him, and he knew she was smiling.

"Mom?" Faith asked when she walked in the door.

"You're late," Emily said, walking out of the kitchen where she was making dinner.

"I know, sorry," Faith said, "But I stopped by Brian's to make plans for the prom on Friday."

Emily smiled, "But you don't have a dress."

"I know," Faith said, "And I know that we really don't have enough money to buy one, but I was thinking... could you maybe make one for me?" she paused, "I mean, I totally understand if you don't have enough time, but -"

"Of course I will."

Faith walked over and gave her mom a hug, "Thank you."
