Lana sat up, covered in sweat. Jace raced into her room, a picture of concern, "Lana, what's wrong?"
Lana was confused. Where was she? Looking down at the pale blue sheets that clung to her body, she realized she was at home, in bed, "I just had the weirdest dream."
"Well, I hope you're feeling ok -- today is the big dance audition!"
"Oh shit!" Lana jumped out of bed, knocking her clock onto the floor, "Ten thirty? How could you let me sleep in so late?!" She searched frantically for something to wear.
"What's the biggie?" Jace asked.
Lana threw the four day old newspaper at her from the night stand, "Can't you read? The audition is at eleven!"
"Oh, fuck!" Jace, who was still in her pajamas, ran out of the room in hysterics.
*******
"Lana Berkitsville & Jace Emmerson?" there was a pause, then they repeated, "Lana Berkitsville & Jace -"
"We're here!" Jace screeched as the two girls came crashing into the room. After regaining her composure she repeated, "We're here."
"Just in time," the receptionist smiled, "We were beginning to wonder whether or not you were going to show up at all."
"I'm so sorry," Jace began.
"It's just that I slept in late," Lana explained.
"And I forgot to wake her up -"
"But I didn't tell her when the audition was -"
"And I -"
The receptionist laughed, "Just calm down and follow me. The guys tend to be very understanding."
"Guys?" Jace raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, they'll be the ones you'll be performing for."
"Guys?" Jace asked Lana.
"Yeah, you know, the Backstreet Boys?"
"WHAT?!" Jace pulled Lana aside, "How could you not tell me that? Look at me, oh my god, I look completely trashed!"
"No you don't," Lana said surveying her friend, "Actually, you don't look trashed -- you look trashy."
Jace looked down at her skimpy halter top and skin tight leather pants. Lana did have a point. "How could you do this to me Lana? I might as well have stayed in bed!"
"So what song are you doing?"
"Song?" Jace snapped to, realizing they had arrived in the dance studio.
"Yeah, you know, the pre-choreographed song you're supposed to perform?" AJ inquired.
Jace started panicking. What pre-choreographed song? Lana had never said anything about -
"Here," Lana said smoothly, handing them a tape, "It's called 'Inspirations'."
"By?"
Lana looked kind of flustered, "Us."
"Lana are you crazy!?" Jace hissed, pulling her aside, "You know I can never get the tumble right!"
"Jace, take a chill pill."
"Uh, is there a problem?" Kevin asked.
"No," Jace said quickly, "No problem. Why would there be a problem?"
"Then let's start," Lana said as Nick popped the tape into the boom box and hit play.
When the girls finished the guys stood in awe.
"Well?" Jace persisted.
"Uh," Howie searched for words, "Good, uh, we'll give you a call."
"That went pretty good," Lana said as they walked out.
"Good?" Jace said, "Good? We were so horrible that they couldn't even talk!"
"Jace?"
"Yeah?"
"Shut up!"
"So wadda ya wanna do now?" Lana asked when they arrived back at their apartment.
"How 'bout go to the docks?" Jace suggested, "It's a nice day to go boating."
" 'K," Lana said, "Let me get my purse."
*******
Instead of boating Lana and Jace decided to just walk around the docks, since they didn't consider the fact that they didn't have a boat to go boating with before they left.
Lana was watching the birds in the water when she saw the reflection of a dark robed figure behind her. It slowly raise a dagger over it's head and Lana's dream rushed back to her. Ducking, she spun around, but there was no one there.
"Lana, hun," Jace said, giving her friend a weird look, "Are you feeling ok?"
