Timberwise, Inc.

Forestry Consultants

INTRODUCTION

Timberwise Inc. was established in January of 1996 to meet the growing needs of private timberland owners in the southern Appalachians. The southern Appalachian region has experienced dramatic growth in the forest products sector over the past ten years. During this same period of new wood processing facilities and increase sawmill capacity, state governments have increased the number of environmental laws, and the United States Forest Service has reduced timber sale volumes. These changes in the forest products industry and political climate have increased the demand for timber resources from private timberland owners.

This demand has altered the way private timberlands have traditionally been valued by the forest products industry and landowners. Prior to this increase in demand, timberland management was very passive or nonexistent. The positive shift in resource demand increased the value of timber and timberland ownership. Ultimately, private timberland owners began requiring the need for professional forestry management.
