Mice are Nice (Especially Mine!)

Mouse News!!

Welcome!

Welcome to my (Alex's) mouse's page! She is a mostly-grey-with-a-tint-of-brown-and-an-almost-white-bellly mouse who was originally destined to be a feeder mouse had I not bought her. She lives in a habitrail cage with a wheel, a second story, and some different toys and sleeping houses. Sometimes I even add some tunnels (click here for an example) and she really loves to explore them.

Mousey's Story

In seventh grade, I had a science teacher who had several pets in her classroom. One of them was a snake, who relied on mice as his food source. My teacher bought a pregnant feeder mouse at the pet store (a dozen mice for the price of one, she thought). During our winter break in 2000, the mouse gave birth to its litter of eight babies. As soon as us kids returned from break and saw how adorable the babies were, we all wanted one. She agreed to put them up for sale, three dollars each, with a permission form.

I had a Betta (a kind of tropical fish) at the time, and don't get me wrong, I loved it, but I longed for a pet that I could actually touch! Naturally, I wanted one of the baby mice (I knew I couldn't go for a dog or cat since we weren't allowed to have anything with fun in the house we were renting.) It took a lot of pusuasion at home to get that permission slip, but after one or two weeks I got it signed. I was thrilled.

Meanwhile at school I spent my breaks visiting the mouse in the litter that I had preferred (even before I had the slip signed!) She was the one who had left the nest first. I put green washable marker on her tail to mark her as mine as the other kids did with their chosen ones.

Out of the litter, one died early of shock when the fire bell went off, one was sold to me, one was sold to a friend of mine, two were sold to this boy (who got a male and a female and soon had over seventy mice, all of whom he threw into his backyard), and one got sold to this other girl. That leaves the last two who were never bought, and along with their mom were used for the original purpose of the purchase:(.
