Plastered Dec Fools Blue Boys - Hot Stars, April 2004
Ant & Dec's latest Gotcha-style TV stunt has boyband squirming.
Ant & Dec played a joke on boyband Blue when they turned up at a hospital to entertain what they thought was a fan. The visit for sick "patien" Georgie - who was in a full body cast after a "terrible fall" - was set up by the cheeky duo.
Volutneering to help take Georgie's temperature and scratch an itch in a hard-to-reach place, Lee squirmed with embarassment. But that wasn't the only awkward moment. The boys had expected Georgie (Dec in disguise) to be a girl, but on entering the room, which was covered with posters of the band, they discovered their fan was in fact a boy.
What's more "Georgie" had written a special version of Blue's hit song One Love about his accident, and asked his idols to perform it for him. Knowing it would make his day, the quartet started to sing, but the boys - impeccably turned out in matching black outfits - soon sucumbed to an untimely fit of the giggles.
By this point, some more savvy stars might have smelt a rat, but Blue repeatedly failed to twig that they had been set up by Ant & Dec for their show Saturday Night Takeaway.
They were eventually put out of their misery when Dec revealed himself to be the fan, and Ant dropped his cover as the female nurse by his beside. Both had been through hours of makeup to be transformed into the same characters who fooled queen of the jungle Kerry McFadden the week before.
Blue took the news in good humour. In fact, the prank seemed to make their day.
We bet Lee will think twice next time he gets plastered!
