You could call it the Mississippi River Guitar Summit. Last Saturday
night at
Master Mix studio in Minneapolis, hotshot New Orleans guitarist Anders
Osborne joined Memphis legend Steve Cropper and our own JonnyLang. The
occasion was to record Osborne's "Pleasing You" for Lang's forthcoming
third
album, produced by David Z. Lang and Cropper (who cowrote "In the
Midnight
Hour" and "Dock of the Bay") already had recorded their parts when
Osborne
arrived by cab. In no time, his dobro drenched the song in Delta
stylings
that perfectly complemented Lang's electric excursions. When Osborne
was
done, Cropper, who's played with everyone from Aretha Franklin to Neil
Young,
smiled and drawled, "That's some red beans and rice in there."
