Review & Pictures from HOB Anaheim Concert (February 17)

Jonny Lang Rocked The House of Blues in Anaheim, CA on February 17, 2001.

I was told that the HOB held around 900 people, but it looked like no more than 350 people danced and sang along on the bottom floor of the two story club. Jonny came on after the opening band, Sue Foley. After opening with Still Rainin', he surprised the audience by pulling out some classic songs, including Rack Em' Up and Good Morning Little Schoolgirl as well as
standards like A Quitter Never Wins. He played three new songs; the only title I knew for sure was Irish Angel. The two other new tunes were awesome and I hope all of them are on the upcoming album. He also played a lot of songs from Wander This World, including my favorite Before You Hit The Ground, which he blended into my next favorite song, The Levee!
I was in Jonny heaven!!
After playing for almost two hours, he came out for the encore and played Breakin Me and finished the show with Lie to Me (the pix I took were during and after Lie To Me). The security was VERY tight and everyone was told that if they were caught taking pictures, they would be ejected from the club. Since it was a small club, I didn't want to risk missing ANY of the show, so I waited until the encore to pull out my camera and snap away as quickly as I could. This was the first Jonny Lang Concert (my third time seeing him live) where the audience really got into his music. Everyone was getting into it and I think Jonny appreciated the audience participation as we whistled, yelled and sang along to each and every song!
A great time was had by all!!

*note to reader - I drove 8 hours to see Jonny in Anaheim and the following week I read in our local entertainment newspaper that he will  be headling the upcoming Santa Cruz Blues Festival in my hometown of Aptos, CA!! I am thrilled and excited to know that he will be playing in my backyard at the end of May.

The sugarman cometh!!!
