Kim Thayil Former Soundgarden guitarist Kim Thayil and Alice in Chains axeman Jerry Cantrell will be among the judges of an official Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Festival being staged by the late guitarist's family at the DV8 Club in Seattle on January 18.

The 14 guitar playing finalists (seven adults and seven in a youth category) were chosen from regional competitions around the country. The winners will be backed by the survivors of Hendrix's original Band of Gypsys -- drummer Buddy Miles and bassist Billy Cox -- as well as guest guitarist Eric Gale.

The festival is a scaled-down version of an event the family had planned for Madison Square Garden this Spring.
