Setting up a Linksys EFSP42 Printserver for Linux

(redhat 7.3)

I have had one heck of a time getting my print server set up correctly, so I thought I would pass on the method for easiley making this work

There are only a few easy steps (which is different than many linux projects)

• put your printserver in etc/hosts (so the network sees it)
• Get the ID off the bottom of the printserver and make into a MAC address
• Assign a name to the printserver and associate that with the MAC address
• tftp this print server and get the info stored there
• Change the info (if needed) and store it back in the printserver
• Add a new UNIX printer using printtool (from the command line)

These things sound difficult but are actually quite easy. I saw this on a linux discussion board and followed the directions (except those extra parts I will mention)

Setting up the printcap the way that it is suggested in the links gives a "stair step" print. Instead of setting up this printcap file, open a console and type: printtool ... a printer window will open

• Choose new
• Printer type is Unix printer
• Choose your printer driver. For me it was HP 890C and pcl3
• If you have followed the directions ... Server is printserver, Queue is L1 or L2 (whichever connector your printer is on)
• Save and restart computer

You should have a working printserver for your Linux system
