Custom House versus Chester City ISA Westminster Park, 3rd September 2000 The Onion Bag Section D, Chester and District Sunday Football League Chester City ISA lined up for their first ever game in the Chester and District Sunday League under glistening sunshine. Custom House offered very experienced opposition and would prove a good measure of the clubs ability. A shaky start all round meant that Chester were quickly under the cosh, and it wasn't long before Custom House made their possession count. A cross to the back post eluded Green and the ball was headed into an empty net, leaving the Blues a goal down. Soon after, Geoff Wynne pulled his hamstring and was replaced by Danny Reynolds, who offered more pace to the side. The long ball over the top caused problems all game for the Blues back line and Custom House bagged two more goals as the strikers eluded the quartet of Brighton, Sandbach, Hocking and Painter to move three goals to the good. Chester City ISA looked set for a hammering, having created very little, however they soon sprung into life. A swift move released Alexander Vile who slid the ball home and earned the honor of being the clubs first ever goal scorer. Chester ISA pressed into action and a nicely worked move released Musgrave who had no hesitation in slamming home to bring the score back to 2-3. Chester ISA created a couple more chances with Reynolds coming very close to equalizing, however they went in a half time behind, but full of confidence. The second half proved equally entertaining and Chester ISA enjoyed the best of the game, with Custom House's goalkeeper pulling off a series of good saves. The Blues battled away and eventually bagged the equalizer. Howell seemed offside after collecting a through ball but the referee waved away the appeals, one on one with the keeper, Howell managed to slam the ball…straight at him, but Vile was on hand to put the rebound away and bring Chester ISA back on level terms. Chester created more chances yet a mix of good fortune and good goalkeeping kept the scores level. Paul Brazier made a couple of substitutions, bring on Wynne for himself and Lee Miller for Howell. Custom House rallied and the substitutions did not make the same impact as those they replaced and it was not long before Custom House found themselves back in front. A long ball beat the defense and an excellent finish eluded both Green and Sandbach to trickle inside the far post. The Blues became scrappy and failed to create chances for Miller or Musgrave and as the game petered out a goalkeeping error gifted Custom House a fifth and final goal to deprive the Blues of a deserved point on what was a very encouraging debut. |
