Communication:

The transmission of information and common understanding from one person or group to another through the use of common symbols.

Direction:

In communication, the flow or path a message will take in order to reach a receiver. The four directions are upward, downward, diagonal, and horizontal.

Feedback:

Any effort made by parties to a communication to ensure that they have a common understanding of each other's meaning and intent.

Grapevine:

The transmission of information and/or misinformation through the use of informal channels at work.

Information:

Any facts, figures, or data that are in a form or format that makes them usable to the person who possesses them.

Medium:

A channel or means used to carry a message in the communication process.

Message:

The transmitter's ideas and feelings that form the content to be transmitted to a receiver.

Receiver:

The person or group intended by transmitters to receive their messages.

Transmitter:

The person or group that transmits or sends a message to a receiver.
