Life With A Cort Artisan Bass
Martin Simpson

I bought my Cort from Guitar World in 1999. This five-string neck through body instrument is without doubt, the most beautiful bass I’ve ever owned. The woods are absolutely gorgeous – it’s unbelievable that it cost less than 5,000 Rands!!! This Korean made instrument is extremely well balanced and sports gold hardware. The truss rod adjustment is done at the head end of the instrument, as is the norm on these type of instruments. The electronics are accessed from the back and the battery is stored in a separate compartment. The black pickups are of the humbucker variety and are made by Mightymite. The headstock is black. The covers are flush mounted and like my Warwick Streamer, the Volume and tone controls form a neat diamond shape on the front of the bass. There is, however, one small thing that I don’t like about this bass. The nut is poorly designed and catches your finger when you execute a note at the first fret position. The range of sounds is phenomenal and as I tune the bass E through C, I don’t experience any fluffy B string woes. If you want a good B string buy a Pedulla or PRS bass!!!! There’s a strange little black sticker at the back of the headstock with the letters CE – I have absolutely no idea what this sticker is for.
