Poems About or For My Family and Friends

A young woman sits on a park bench
Holding a baby she can't afford to feed
Tears roll down her face
She's making the hardest decision of her life
She walks to a wealthy neighborhood
Puts the baby on a porch and walks away

"Please take care of my baby
Love her as your own
I can't be her Mama anymore
I want her to have a good home"

The baby girl grows into a young woman
Never knowing about the woman who gave her life
Her mother and father loved her very much
But she always knew something wasn't right
Then one day she found a note in a drawer
All her questions were answered in the words

"Please take care of my baby
Love her as your own
I can't be her Mama anymore
I want her to have a good home"

A few years later the young woman finds her mother
For the first time standing face to face
Seeing familiar eyes staring out from a stranger
The mother hugs her baby close
And whispers softly, "Thank you God."

"For taking care of my baby.
For loving her as your own.
When I couldn't be her Mama anymore;
You made sure she had a good home.

you said you'd always be there
you betrayed me, walked away
left me to suffer here alone
what happened to "friends forever"?

i trusted you with my secrets
you promised they were safe
but you told every one of them
spilled them without thinking

Now you have returned to my life
trying to get it all back again
can't you see the trust is gone?
i don't love you like i once did

---------------------------------------------------------

I reach for your hand
Like so many times before
But find mine empty
You're not here anymore

I shed a single tear
As my heart sinks low
Just how much I needed you
I really didn't know

My eyes close in pain
And softly I hear
"I'm still with you"
Whispered in my ear

A smile comes to my lips
As I finally come to see
You no longer hold my hand
But I feel you all around me

Baby Girl enters the world
Baby Girl takes her first breaths
Baby Girl is perfect in every way

But there were no tears of joy

Little Girl smiles for the first time
Little Girl takes her first step
Little Girl says her first word

But there were no tears of joy

Young Woman grows up
Young Woman learns about life
Young Woman stands on her own

But there were no tears of joy

They didn't love her
They wanted a Baby Boy

Lying in a pool of blood
His wounds can't be healed
Left to die there in the mud
This young man's fate is sealed

He thinks about his wife
The sweetest woman he'd met
The best thing in his short life
Leaving her is his one regret

He thinks of his two little girls
Just three and five years old
Cherubic faces, little blonde curls
He wonders what their futures hold

His head lulls, his eyes close
His mother's voice he hears
His heart is weaker, it slows
He calls out to God through his tears

"Why?" the only word he can say
He's too young to leave this earth
He didn't think he'd die today
What has his life been worth?

It's silent now, he's gone
This faceless hero, America's son
His memory will live on
In the hearts of everyone

chubby little hands
clinging to mine
silly little grins
little eyes that shine

sitting on my lap
listening to me read
when the story is over
"Just one more" you plead

I ruffle your hair
and kiss your head
"one more little one
and then off to bed"

you make me laugh
until I cry
sweet little angels
auntie's little guys

children are wonderful
and until I have little ones
I'm happy being auntie
to my sister's daughter and sons

---------------------------------------------------------

Crayon pictures on the wall
Stuffed animals on the floor
Memories of the little one
Who doesn’t live here anymore

Gone are the sweet smiles
Gone are the baby tears
Gone are the I love you’s
Gone are those precious years

With the angels now you fly
So young and alone in heaven and
Since I am still here on Earth
Who is there to hold your hand

---------------------------------------------------------

years creep by, changes take place
so slowly that we barely notice
until one day you stop to think
about the way things used to be

suddenly we're not ten years old
we don't spend our time dreaming
about our futures, what they hold
or where we'll be in ten years

those years are gone, slipped away
like the summer winds and the snow
we've drifted apart a little more
with each year that passed us by

I barely know you now, it's sad
you're just a phone call once a week
a card on the major holidays
and a million wonderful memories
