Week 76, Day 495
It's been a whole month since my last entry and so much has changed it's difficult to know where to begin. I'm not going to go into too much detail otherwise we'll be here all day so I think I'll break it down into segments.
WORK
Well, it's finished basically. I had a hell month really. Andy was away on holidays for a week, and then Les went away for two weeks, which left me doing a lot more than is normally necessary and only having one day off a week for the last month. That was the tough part I think, and explains why I feel so sleepy all the time. I was extremely stressed out for a lot of the time, and I know everyone noticed and was worried. But luckily, after complaining to Andy, they let me off early from work. So I don't have to work the last two weeks but I still get paid. I think that's fair! The funny thing is that my shifts, especially in the last two weeks, were going so damn well. I had finally reached the point I'd been aiming for so at least I know now that I can do the job properly! I will miss it - mainly the social aspect. I made friends with a lot of the regular customers and staff. It was hard saying goodbye. One elderly couple - Percy and Molly - who come in every Tuesday night came in to say goodbye to me on Friday and gave me a card and chocolates. Isn't that sweet? They also gave me their address so I can contact them when I'm back in town. I was really touched.
SOCIAL LIFE
Haven't been out as much since Glastonbury. It was hard being at work the weekend that Alex went to T-in-the-Park, knowing I should have been there if it weren't for work. Still going to the Cockpit music quiz every Wednesday night - and we won last night! About time too! I'm more chuffed about winning than the prizes themselves, but 8 free pints and two tickets to one of the gigs isn't a bad reward even if we had to share it between a few of us ;) I had a belated birthday party at my house a few weeks back. It was a disappointment in that the guys from work didn't turn up when they said they would. So I had Lyndon bring over his decks and speakers to play us a set and no one to play to. Not happy Jan! However, those that were there still made the most of it. Marion and Susan invited a few of their friends around. Amit, Dave and Dave's friend Jess came round as well. Steve and Becky, Lyndon and Nina were there too. And I had a good time so that's all that really matters! Haha! Two weeks ago, Alex, Lyndon and I went to a party night for Superconductor (DJ night) at a club called Mission. I didn't like the venue much, especially after they put all the water taps onto hot, and sold bottles of water for £3. But I had an awesome time! It had been a long time since dancing the night away and we were there until 5am, so I did my fair share's worth. One of the headlining DJs wasn't able to make it in the end due to his vinyl going missing in transit, but the others were still fantastic. I met some of Alex's uni friends who I've heard about for ages as well, including Josh, the fellow Aussie. We went back to Lyndon and Nina's and stayed up until about 10am. I had to work the next night but it was all worth it.
HOME
I have now moved out - did it last weekend. I'm living at Alex's until we go abroad. It's a bit weird feeling displaced again, but that's what travellings all about.
TRAVEL
Now is the beginning of yet more travelling. Going to Cambridge to visit Alex's parents this weekend. The following weekend we're going camping in Ripon. On the 19th we're off to Amsterdam and as soon as we get back, we're off to the Leeds Festival. At some point we're going down to London before we jet off to Oz on the 16th September. I've already got some dates booked for our NZ trip (one week in Queenstown from the 1-8 October) but am trying to finalise everything else at the moment. Am VERY excited!
And that's it for the minute. Who knows when I'll next come on here. Only 5 weeks to go before I'm back in Oz... yay!
