Here's my guidelines to living life the Marc way [in case anyone is interested]:
Note: This list will constantly updated until I feel it is complete, no matter how many guidelines there may be.
Last Update: #10, 11, 12, 13 (11/10/02) #14, 15, 16 (11/11/2002) #17(11/15/2002)
1. Be as lazy as you can possibly be. If time permits it, sit around and do absolutely nothing. Watch a movie. Watch TV. Play video games. Screw around on the computer.
2. Don't do your assignments until the night before they are due. This is key because you get the late night rush when you have to finish a paper.
3. Wear clothes that are very comfortable, no matter how ridiculous you may look. Who cares what other people think.
4. Other people are assholes [Well at least most of them]. Accept that.
5. Listening to music is key. One song can change your life, and you should look for that song.
6. Being yourself is key. If you ever change who you are for even a short period of time, unless the situation is dealing with people who are older than you [you should respect your elders, it gets you very far], then you really haven't discovered who you are.
7. Discovering your true self is the key to happiness. When you do that you need not worry about achieving perfection. Perfection in life is not require. God does not keep score. You do not get points for being extra perfect.
8. Mini-skateboards are a must. As is Hawaiian Punch and XBOX. [Note: this guideline is not as important as the others]
9. Don't be concerned with the actions/acts of others. Let other people live life they want to. Don't try to impose your opinions on others, just give advice. Just state the facts from your perspective and don't tell people what to do, they can make their own decisions.
10. If a friend ever needs advice, give it to them. Anytime of the day, no matter how bad you may feel. Don't be so judgmental on them. What you say has a serious affect on what they will think or do. Don't give any one-sided advice, because it may only hurt them later. Give the facts in the way YOU view it, straight out.
11. Lying is the WORST thing in the world. Honestly is the most important quality that you should keep. People may not want the truth, but in the end you will be better off because of it.
12. Be there. For friends at any time. If they need you don't blow them off, even if they've woken you up at 5 in the morning and have a huge problem. If they need you it shows you something about your relationship, and it may be deeper than you expected. These are the friends you want to keep, the friends that you know YOU can count on, should you have problems yourself.
13. Curse. A lot. Try not to use it in stupid ways, but when you curse people tend to listen as opposed to hearing you. SHIT, FUCK, ASSHOLE, BITCH. 4 words that can mean of lot of different things.
14. Sarcasm prevails over all forms of humor. It is a very handy weapon.
15. Don't label any of your friends as, "best friends". Not only does it sound childish, but when you label someone as that you put them in a different light. Sure, you may feel differently about them, and that they might be better than others, but see what happens when you two get in a minor argument. I've lost more best friends than I can count anymore, mainly because of differences we've had. Because of that, I don't give any of my friends labels. Sure, you might be more friendly with some more than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean you are picking them over others. The "best friend" label does have a few exceptions though, such as when you've been friends for more than 5 years, and have gone through many disagreements, but labeling your friends is not something I recommend. I like all my friends, no matter how close or far to them I may be.
16. When dealing with a heavy topic in your life, don't be afraid to ask friends for help. Not doing anything about your problem will only help you later. This one goes in relation to #12. I've learned from experience of how this one can greatly affect your mental stability. I never really asked any of my friends for help during my summer of hell, and it got me nowhere. Never again will I let that happen.
17. If you ever get injured, the friends who care the most are the ones worth keeping. Anyone else who offers you fake sympathy, well fuck them. Telling the difference between real and fake sympathy isn't that hard, and the friends that offer real sympathy are the ones worth keeping around. Everyone else is just fake. Fuck them.
