Using Paint at The Brooks

OPENING PAINT AT THE BROOKS

There are no icons on the desktop for Paint on The Brooks computers.

Also it is not possible to get to Paint by going into All Programs thru the Start menu.

Therefore it is necessary to open Paint by a devious method.

First the graphics must be saved to a folder on your computer. (PLEASE SEE BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS) Usually you will save it to the My Pictures folder, but you can save it to any folder of your choice. Now you should right click on the graphics you have saved to this folder. You will get a menu. Then choose Edit from the menu.

That will open Paint and bring the graphics into Paint.

 

DOWNLOADING A PICTURE FROM THE INTERNET

Put the mouse hand in the middle of the picture you want to download to disk.

 

Right click with the mouse.

You should get a menu. (You will always get a menu when you right click)

 

Left click on the line that says “Save Picture As”

You will get a dialog frame called “Save Picture”.

 

SAVING YOUR PICTURE TO YOUR COMPUTER

If you are saving to the hard drive do nothing. In this case, the computer has already chosen to save in a default folder called My Pictures, just go ahead and save in that folder.

 

If you want to create a new folder in the My Pictures folder, click on the Create a Folder icon, now without doing anything type in a name for the new folder.

Click out in the white area of the screen. That will create a new folder.

 

GIVING YOUR PICTURE A NAME

There will be a suggested name for the file in the “File Name” box. You will usually have to change it to something that better describes the picture. This can be done by dragging over the existing name with the mouse and typing in a new name Now just click the Save button.
