Trinity's is the vinyl-clad woman that stuns the audience with her mid-air-suspension-kick-cop-in-jaw sequence. It is this stunt where we stop thinking that this movie is going to be boring (as the very beginning may suggest).
Trinity has been out of the Matrix for quite a long time. My guess is she's been out longer than any of them, except, of course, for Morpheus, Tank, and Dozer. I say that because when she brings Neo some goop after his combat training, Cypher remarks that she never brought him dinner. That would mean she was around [and able to bring dinner -ie. no atrophied muscles etc.] when Cypher was unplugged, which, we're told, happened 9 years ago.
She is the one who approaches Neo in the beginning and she's the one who convinces him to stay when Switch is a bit too rough around the edges. Trinity is 'the ranking officer on this ship' and although she does not get much chance to use that rank [except towards the end], you just know that if she told you to do something you would scramble to it immediately, possibly panting and wagging your tail.
